Learn more at HonorHealth.com. Responsibilities Job Summary Responsible for coordinating and implementing the preparation, compounding and dispensing of investigational drugs. The research pharmacist ensures compliance with the required record-keeping, shipping, ordering, and inventory activities for investigation drugs to meet sponsor requirements, FDA regulations and legal requirements for pharmacy operations. Oversees pharmacy students and residents, interns and technicians in the day to day operations for investigational drugs. Performs pharmacist duties in the cancer center when needed. Coordinates and implements investigational drug study protocols including pharmacy study set up and close out, and staff education. Contributes to the body of knowledge in pharmacy practice (research, poster Presentation, journal article, etc.). Review proposed investigational drug protocols for scientific merit, appropriateness of research to be conducted, content of consent forms and safety issues. Serves as a resource and collaborates with investigators, research personnel and sponsors on proposed research protocols. Evaluates and assesses the impact of investigational studies on pharmacy operations by determining storage, preparation, monitoring and budget requirements. Coordinates the procurement, receipt, and accountability of investigational drugs. Participates in sponsor site initiation visits and study monitor visits. Accurately maintains investigational drug study records and documentation as required by the study sponsor and accrediting bodies. Reviews study related adverse events, protocol updates, and progress reports. Provides professional and patient consultations per pharmacy guidelines and in a timely manner (i.e. Investigational drug therapy, physician consults). Develops and implements evidence-based medication guidelines/protocols. Designs and implements medication monitoring guidelines and programs for staff. Acts as a liaison to the nursing units, in assigned practice area, in order to communicate pertinent information and to facilitate communication and increase cooperation. Attends and actively participates in patient care team meetings by problem solving and getting involved in the planning process. Serves as a representative at the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Serve as an ad hoc representative to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee Assists in the coordination of the departmental performance improvement and quality assurance activities including medication use evaluation, medication error review, adverse drug reaction review and pharmacy intervention reporting. Coordinates follow up on implementation of target programs and pharmacoeconomic evaluations. Develops the pharmacy skills of pharmacy staff members by teaching and exemplifying those skills to the team members; trains and directs the training of new staff members; participates in staff educational development encouraging team members to further their learning in pharmaceutical care to contribute to patient care/safety; provides educational seminars to pharmacy staff at least twice a year; provides educational information to physicians and other Licensed Independent Practitioners (staff), nursing staff, and other allied health care professionals as needed or assigned. Identifies and implements Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative (PPMI) models. Precepts PGY1 and PGY2-Pharmacotherapy residents, pharmacy students, and contributes to staff development in area of specialty practice. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a minimum of Doctor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent experience. Required Experience One (1) year hospital pharmacy residency or 3 years of clinical pharmacy experience in a hospital setting.
