Job SummaryThis is a technical role responsible for implementation of DNS systems and structures that supports the enterprise DNS, and IMRS infrastructure at a level commensurate with the criticality of the services supported. They ensure that all systems are working at optimal levels and support the development of new technologies and system requirements. The Engineer may contribute to providing project outcomes.Contributing to the development, and implementation of systems required for the operation of critical and enterprise infrastructure of ICANN, the Infrastructure Engineer holds (and further develops) subject matter expertise in the appropriate technologies and can interact at a commensurate level with staff and stakeholders. Key Responsibilities & Duties: Work on and collaborate with management and department leaders on the business issues requiring expert technical knowledge where near and long-term analysis of situations requires evaluation of intangibles.Support DNS Engineering projects by ensuring adherence to project scope, timeline, resources and budget.Follow direction in solving unique or complex problems that have a broad impact on the business.Contribute to exceptional standards of documentation as it relates to design, configuration, processes and procedures in line with department goals of the Capability Maturity Model (CMM). Interact with vendors, outsourcers and contractors to secure systems and network products and services.Participate in technical community meetings and related outreach and knowledge-transfer activities.Engage in the review processes for new systems or infrastructure and document the technical operations of new infrastructure working across the entire E&IT function.Contribute to the creation of detailed plans for the integration of new infrastructure into or replacing existing infrastructure inclusive of logistical plans and providing technical direction and support.Support the evaluation of new and existing infrastructure activities and projects based on best architectural practices and identifying new best practices and lessons learned. Provide balanced feedback to leadership for future integration.Other duties as assigned or requested. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Good knowledge and experience in operating critical systems and infrastructure.Good organizational and analytical skills.Ability to work collaboratively with diverse functions and levels within the organization.Demonstrated skills in DNS, DNSSEC, service design and service engineering.Demonstrated ability to support and maintain global DNS and DNSSEC infrastructure.Demonstrated competency in supporting solutions to complex and diverse business problems.Exposure to cost reduction and cost control initiatives.Understands ITIL strategy, CMM targets, network and systems security, infrastructure components, and internet protocols.Specialized knowledge of DNS and DNSSEC protocols.Acts independently with little supervision in a complex and evolving environment. Education and Experience Requirements: Minimum Bachelors in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or equivalent.8 Years of related industry experience.5 Years of experience in DNS infrastructure.Active affiliations with network operations groups, and the DNS community.
