Estimator - Underground Dry Utilities:
PURPOSE:
The ideal candidate should have extensive estimating knowledge and understanding of Underground Utility standards. The candidate will work with our Underground Utility Team to prepare complete Underground Power and/or Communication duct bank cost estimates for public, private and federal entities. This position includes presenting bid reviews and working with upper management, contract negotiations, completing/submitting or - change orders, creating schedules, tracking job cost, working directly with customers, venders and subcontractors, understanding of contract language/commitments and requirements containing special/technical specifications and provisions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Ability to read and understand geotechnical reports, blue prints, profiles, bid documentation and meet multiple deadlines. Attend pre-bid meetings, review existing site conditions, prepare budgets/estimates by calculating complete takeoff and consult with Underground Team on means and methods for best estimate outcomes. Prepare bid documentations required for submittal, schedule of values, bid break outs, special insurance, bonds, local hire, DBE, etc. Prepare project hand offs and coordinate scope of work with Project Manager, Superintendents, Project Engineers and Subcontractors. Confer with engineers, architects, owners, city inspectors, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates and cost data regarding project feasibility. Ability to engage and develop business with new and existing customers. Computer estimating skills are a plus including Microsoft (word, excel, etc) Hard Dollar and Bluebeam Must be aggressive in providing innovative solutions to complex issues as they arise related to cost, lead times, and or specified materials. Ability to make reliable predictions as it relates to cost and to be comfortable estimating across all scopes. Must have knowledge and understanding of unit cost and the factors that affect construction cost. Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimates figures. Coordinate with P.O. Manager to create purchase orders for each project. Coordinates the implementation of subcontracts with the Contract Manager. Track estimates submitted for industry cost trends. Promotes safety among peers, subordinates, supervisors and follow company safety program. Performs additional assignments as directed by Underground Division Manager. EDUCATION: 4-year engineering or construction management degree preferred or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience. LICENSE: Possess or ability to obtain a valid class C California driver's license EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in utility estimating and project managing Strong background in writing, presentation, and computer skills required. Thorough knowledge of construction procedures, estimating techniques, all engineering disciplines, cost control systems and accounts required. Ability to multi-task and manage multiple estimates at any given time. SKILLS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Advanced knowledge of estimating techniques and cost controls, plus ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems essential. Excellent organizational, communication, planning and analytical skills required. Ability to operate a motor vehicle, required.
