SUMMARY:
The Senior UNIX Systems Administrator is responsible for the planning, performance, and installation of Nuvance Health's mission-critical UNIX based operating systems. This includes planning and organizing Nuvance Health's computer-related disaster recovery plan and the planning and installation of major code upgrades and ongoing software maintenance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage Operating Systems to insure Unix-based operating systems are at the most current and effective release levels to support mission-critical systemsInsure IBM hardware components are at the most current and effective levels of microcode required to support the AIX operating systemsinsure the UNIX/AIX computer-related disaster recovery plan is current and effectiveCreate processes to automate management of system resources and perform routine application proceduresChange control management: manage the installation of major code upgrades to UNIX, SAN, and Tivoli systemsManage the installation of corrective fixes to all applications running on the UNIX operating systemsManage the movement of data between storage arraysMonitor all activities on UNIX server environments to identify and resolve performance issues before an impact to system performance occursMonitor Tivoli backup system to ensure successful completion of backups on a nightly basis; resolve any issues resulting in a failed backupEnsure various SAN arrays and fibre channel are operating properly and have adequate capacity to meet the demands of all applicationsAnalyze, recommend, procure, and implement system software, hardware, and utilities required to support the efficient operation of all platformsProvide automated processes for the management of system resources and perform routine application procedures for the Cerner and Eclypsis applicationTroubleshoot issues that impair system performanceManage the Storage Area Network (SAN) including disk environment, connectivity between various storage platforms, and plan all architectural changes and upgradesPerform annual budgetary analysis on hardware and software maintenanceRegular analysis of the current state architecture and technical storage infrastructure to ensure protection against failure of technical obsolescenceAdminister data backup systems and backup methodologyManage and maintain the tape library and ensure adequate backup and recovery windowsPerform periodic technology assessments to ensure data and technology meet current and future needsManage annual hardware and software maintenance agreements with vendors to insure accurate billingPerform periodic assessments of technology and maintenance contracts; make recommendations for cost savings and economies of scaleData Inventory and Protection: perform periodic analysis on data use to ensure proper capacityFulfill all compliance responsibilitiesProvide 24/7 support through investigation and analysis of problems using documentation, manuals, debugging tools, and logic to resolve problems, prevent recurrence, and ensure continuity. Remote call responsibility for off-shift, weekends & holidaysREQUIREMENTS:Four-year college degree, preferably in Computer ScienceExperience in UNIX systems programmingFour years experience in project management/minimum of five years work experiencePreference for strong analytical and communications skills
