Also the handling and inventory of both hazardous and non-hazardous laboratory waste.The Shipping and Receiving & Operational Support Specialist is responsible for:* Ensuring the shipment and receiving of chemicals and chemical support for the laboratories complies with all applicable regulations* Ensuring that training required for the position is current and in compliance with State and Federal Regulations* Assist employees with guidance in proper procedures for chemical shipments, track shipments when needed and confirm shipments have been properly classified.* Thorough understanding of procedures, regulations and systems needed for domestic and international shipping of hazardous and non hazardous materials.* Providing support to ensure the safe packaging and delivery of Solvay materials sent from the Bristol site include key documentation* Awareness of and following all Solvay safety policies and procedures including Solvays Life Saving Rules* Demonstrating a safety commitment by participating in Safety training and events* Taking action and reporting on any unsafe act / condition / behavior. Everyone on site is empowered to intervenewith respect to any unsafe act that they may observe.* Attending and completing new hire training* Have operational knowledge and ability to inspect safety equipment within everyday workspace and other locations where work is required. This includes eyewash stations, safety showers, PPE locations, spill equipment and fire extinguishers.* Attending monthly safety trainings and mandatory training topics* Being able to access SDS information of on site chemicals via a company maintained database.* Wearing appropriate PPE relative to the space you are working. Observe all PPE requirements when in labs.* Obtaining advanced equipment or process specific safety training when necessary according to the specific hazards.* Handling, transportation and required logging of laboratory generated waste from labs to central storage locations* Able to identify tasks requiring additional assistance or handling equipment and to seek that assistance prior to handling alone.* Safe handling of gas cylinders for delivery to laboratories.* May assist in inventory ordering and stock of required items in the storeroom.* Maintaining workspace in a clean and orderly manner.* Support of Facility operations relative to Solvay leased or owner property such as but not limited to furniture and office relocations, lab equipment relocation, general light duty non skilled building maintenance activities such as lamp changing and conference space setups.* Support of maintenance staff in a helper role or safety monitoring role, i.e fire watch, safety watch.* Ability to lift and handle 50lbs* Ability to work in temperature extremes of 0 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit for short periods of time. (Primarily shipping and receiving outside activities)* Operate a propane powered forklift and pass required testing to maintain license for forklift operation.* Provide safety checks of forklift prior to each use.* Ability to climb and work from a ladder up to 4 off a level surface.* Ability to climb 4 flights of stairs.* Position requires moderate physical work at intermittent periods throughout the daily 8 hour work shift.*The listed tasks are representative of the majority of areas of responsibility but not all inclusive due to the dynamic of maintaining and supporting a research facility.Education and Experience* A High School Education.* 2 years of experience in shipping, receiving and materials handling.Skills* The candidate must either (a) hold active certification, (b) have been previously trained or (c) be willing to be trained on the following procedures as they apply for shipment of chemicals both domestically and internationally: IATA (hazardous training by air), 49 CFR (DOT Hazardous Ground Shipments), 40 CFR Hazardous Waste Handling procedures. These certifications must be maintained as required by Government regulation. Training cost to be covered by Solvay.* Any candidate who does not currently possess certification but is willing to be trained, must successfully complete the certification process within 2 months of employment.* Must be capable of staying abreast of regulation changes and upgrading skills as required.* Ability to be self directed and work independently managing responsibilities with a varying daily workload and tasks.* Maintain required license/permit to operate a forklift and ability to properly use associated material handling equipment needed in the operation of shipping, handling, warehousing activities.* Computer skills required to create basic documents and spreadsheet data entry. Ability to work within Company systems for material ordering, reconciliation of materials ordered and any other programs or systems required to perform tasks needed for the position.
