Job Description:Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel, the attorney in this position will work closely with Authority executives, Board members, senior staff (planners, engineers, and environmental specialists), and represent the Authority before external stakeholders such as officials from federal and State government agencies and leaders from community, environmental, and business organizations on all phases of the development and implementation of high-speed rail project sections in Northern California, the Central Valley, and Southern California.
The attorney performs the most complex work such as reviewing and advising on the development of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents and ensuring that their preparation can withstand legal challenges. This position may also represent the agency in complex CEQA/NEPA settlement negotiations, working closely with private outside litigation counsel and the Attorney General’s Office.
