Position SummaryPSI is the largest privately owned shipyard in Hawaii, with two of the largest dry docks in the state. We have been in business since 1944 and have a large labor force of skilled craftsman with a full support staff of professionals who comprise of engineering, project management, QA, EHS, accounting, contracts, and human resources.

We are seeking a highly qualified

Ship Superintendent

to join our Project Management team. The Ship Superintendent reports to the VP of Programs with functional reporting to the Project Manager and manages a portion of ship repair maintenance packages that may include installation, modification, and repair of complex equipment and systems. The Ship Superintendent ensures that assigned work is completed on time and within an established budget. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with shared responsibility for the successful outcome of the assigned project.

The Ship Superintendent often works with the crafts to discuss and coordinate production work and must have excellent communication skills to coordinate and work with subcontractors and the customer, ensuring problems are resolved to ensure work flows smoothly.

The Ship Superintendent must be able to assess production progress and discuss production challenges with the Project Management Team and production team. Interacting with other shipyard departments, including the customer, is also common.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Manage, plan, and coordinate ship repair work items as part of the Project TeamCoordinate with other departments (QA, safety, production), subcontractors, OEM technical reps, and customers throughout the repairBe capable of reading and understanding ship repair specification, drawings, schematicsAssist with labor cost estimatingBe comfortable in an industrial, maritime environmentBe a good communicator and a team player!!!

Education/Training/Skills:

Engineering degree or related or equivalent work experience is desirablePMP certification desirableKnowledge and understanding federal contracts is helpfulKnowledge of shipboard lockout and tag out proceduresPrevious experience or training in work sequencing and schedulingExcellent written and verbal communication skillsProficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and general computer skills

Qualification/Requirements:

Must show proof of legal right to work in the United States and US Citizenship due to security clearance required for base accessMust be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)Must be able to obtain a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential to gain access to federally controlled work sitesAll candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening and background check before employment begins.Valid State of Hawaii drivers’ license in good standing, class 3 or higherCandidates must have access to reliable transportation to get to work and other job sites on time for the start of shiftMust be flexible in work hours
