Position Description

Primary Function:

This Psychiatrist position is responsible for providing psychopharmacology services for patients. The Psychiatrist is responsible for assisting the Director of Behavioral Health in reviewing and/or creating all behavioral health medical policies and protocols and for providing input to the Director on all psychiatry-related services. The Psychiatrist functions under the general supervision of the Director of Behavioral Health.

Duties & Responsibilities:Perform psychiatric evaluations and mental status examinations for Behavioral Health patients.Assume responsibility for the prescribing and monitoring of all medications prescribed.Conduct medication follow-up visits for all patients evaluated (unless the psychiatric evaluation is for psychopharmacology consultation only, in which case the PCP would continue follow up care).Communicate consistently with the BH practice secretary on referrals coming into psychiatry, on follow up appointments, no-show outreach and any scheduling needs.Make referrals as appropriate for the evaluation of non-psychiatric, physical health problems by maintaining communication with patients' PCPs.Provide consultation for department staff and in-house providers as needed, to include warm hand-off and consultation with primary care patients and PACE program team and participants.Support efforts to meet clinical quality goals, e.g. expediting follow-up appointments for patients seen in ERs and/or hospitalized for behavioral issues.Maintain clinical documentation and record keeping in compliance with department and licensing regulations.Participate in the Behavioral Health multidisciplinary team meetings, utilization reviews and quality assurance activities.Participate in the establishment of medical policies for psychiatry services within the Behavioral Health department.Supervise the clinical care and documentation provided by PMHNPs in the behavioral health department with provision of the required supervisory hours to the PMHNP staff on weekly basis.Participate in other appropriate committees or working groups as assigned by the Director.Handle other duties as assigned by the Director as needed.Qualifications

Minimum Basic Knowledge:

Strong commitment to community psychiatry.Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary team and providers in a primary care setting.Familiarity with the Epic electronic health record system.Experience & Qualifications:

Licensed to practice Adult and/or Child Psychiatry in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; and Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, or eligible for such certification.Preference for two years of practice experience, preferably at a federally qualified health center (FQHC).Bilingual in English/Spanish and/or English/Cape Verdean Creole preferred.
