The Role

AspenTech is seeking a senior lawyer to join its fast-paced Legal Department. This is a unique position with an unusual variety of work projects and a high degree of responsibility, with a primary focus on software licensing, managing a team of professionals and general advice to our Sales organization. The position will report to the SVP & General Counsel in Bedford, MA.

This role requires strong legal expertise, a practical approach, and the ability to work cross-functionally across the organization to drive sales velocity and protect the Company’s interests.

Your Impact

Sales: Serve as the lead attorney for the North America Sales organization. Enable the success of Sales. Sales Operations and other internal groups by providing timely, sound and practical advice.Leadership: Manage a small team of professionals.Contract Review: Review and negotiate software development, licensing, and distribution agreements and support the North America Sales organization.Process Improvement and Technology Implementation: Drive process improvement and implement technology into the contracting process to drive efficiencies into the contracting processes.Playbooks: Draft and enhance contracting playbooks. Support our customers’ success by creatively designing and negotiating clear contractual solutions that meet customer requirements while also contributing to the key business measures we utilize to track and assess the performance of our business.Regulatory Guidance: Stay up to date with industry regulations and provide practical, risk-based guidance to the Sales organization.Risk Assessment: Identify potential legal risks and provide strategies to mitigate those risks.Due Diligence: Assist in due diligence activities related to mergers, acquisitions, or partnerships.Training and Education: Educate Sales employees on key legal issues.

What You'll Need

Business acumen and desire to have an impact on the company.Deep experience drafting, analyzing and negotiating complex contracts, preferably software license agreements.10+ years’ experience in sophisticated legal environment(s); Software technology company experience preferred but not required.J.D. from an accredited law school and member of state bar.Demonstrate entrepreneurial thought and action. Have an ownership orientation, as opposed to acting as a passive consultant or external advisor. Be directly involved in issues and on top of the details.
