Ares Management Corporation (NYSE:ARES) is looking to hire an experienced privacy and data protection attorney to join its Legal team. This position will report to the Managing Director, Associate General Counsel with flexibility to work primarily from one of Ares’ existing U.S. office locations. The attorney in this position will provide guidance on privacy, data protection and cybersecurity matters and applicable laws and regulations (GLBA, GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, PIPL, etc.) across the firm and its global offices, take a lead role in building out Ares’ existing privacy program and support incident response investigations/efforts.This role will work directly with stakeholders across the firm (including the Ares Compliance, Information Technology & Security, Enterprise Risk and Human Resources teams) as well as the broader Ares Legal team. The attorney will have the opportunity to partner with portfolio companies of Ares to identify privacy risks and remedies. This role is a great opportunity to be part of a team-oriented legal group and work at one of the largest alternative investment managers in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Primary Functions & Responsibilities

Provide strategic legal guidance that balances applicable privacy and data protection requirements with practical, commercial considerations for the relevant stakeholders.Act as a legal subject matter expert for federal, state and global privacy and data protection laws and regulations applicable to Ares’ global operations (GLBA, GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, PIPL, etc.) as well as cybersecurity matters.Take a lead role in Ares’ privacy initiatives, including data mapping, record retention, record of processing and privacy impact assessments.Advise on ways to improve Ares’ existing privacy program and processes, with a focus on identifying efficiencies.Review relevant policies and related documentation (ex. employee privacy statements, investor privacy statements, website privacy policy), reviewing and updating as needed due to changes in applicable law and/or business operations.Review and negotiate privacy provisions in vendor contracts, as well as vendor-requested revisions to Ares’ standard Data Protection Annex and Data Processing Agreement.Partner with the Security and Enterprise Risk teams to investigate potential privacy incidents and coordinate incident response efforts (when applicable), leveraging outside counsel as needed.Coordinate responses to data subject access requests.Implement and oversee privacy training and awareness activities for Ares as well as portfolio companies of Ares.Prepare, socialize, and implement legal guidelines for various business groups governing data use and protection.Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree required.JD required with a strong academic background.Experience Required

5+ years of law firm or in-house experience handling global data privacy and protection matters, ideally with some exposure to the financial services industry.A working knowledge of global privacy law, cybersecurity, incident response frameworks and notification procedures.Experience counseling clients on legal/regulatory compliance and privacy program management/implementation.Significant collaboration with colleagues across multiple functions, including those in senior and executive leadership.Proven record of accomplishment in relationship management with internal and external stakeholders.CIPP certification(s) preferred but not required.General Requirements

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.$150,000 - $200,000The firm also offers robust Benefits offerings.
