About The Team

Our autonomy software team is growing and we are looking for an experienced Control Engineer. In this impactful role, you will collaborate with best-in-class engineers to tackle challenging problems and help advance the future of robotics to improve everyday lives.

About The Work

Develop and maintain robust, reliable, fail-safe and optimized production-level control software using software engineering best practices (API design, rigorous code review, unit testing, etc).Participate in hands-on vehicle bringup, prototyping, testing, and debugging of control algorithms and systems on multiple vehicle platforms.Design and implement theoretical and practical control approaches and architectures for Nuro’s existing and new vehicle platforms, including filtering / estimation, classical and modern control methodologies, modeling and simulations.Design, implement, and use a data visualization, metrics, test harness, and triage system to identify, analyze, understand, root-cause, and evaluate performance limitations of Nuro’s self-driving control system.Collaborate closely with engineers across the hardware, low-level software, vehicle testing, systems, product, and other autonomy software teams.About You

BS/MS in mechanical, mechatronics, electrical, aerospace, robotics, computer engineering, or computer science3+ years of hands-on experience in developing ADAS or Autonomous Driving control software and bringing it to productionStrong C (preferred) or C++ programming skillsDeep knowledge in vehicle dynamics, control theory, control strategy development and testingPassionate about solving real-world challenging autonomous driving problemsFast to learn new areas and adapt quickly to new problemsStrong math (geometry, analysis, probability), physics (kinematics, dynamics), and analytical skillsTeam playerBonus Points

Ph.D. with emphasis on ControlImplementation classical and modern control methods such as gain scheduling, LQR and Model Predictive ControlPowertrain and/or chassis control experienceExperience in vehicle brake or steering actuators and vendor managementExperience in automotive functional safetyASPICE experienceAt Nuro, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. For this position, the reasonably expected pay range is between $167,200 and $250,800/year for the level at which this job has been scoped. Your base pay will depend on several factors, including your experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply. This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package.
