Job Summary:
Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates therapeutic respiratory intervention to patients requiring critical care services for acute and chronic cardio-pulmonary disease. Therapeutic modalities include airway management, blood gas sampling, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, administration of medical gases and pharmacological agents to the tracheobronchial tree, complete ventilator management, and participation in hemodynamic monitoring. With Pulmonary Council and Respiratory Care Department approval, performs elective and emergency intubations, insertion of arterial lines, and bedside disposable bronchoscopies. An RRT may accept verbal and phone orders from licensed independent providers as defined by policy and initiate therapy based on department protocols. Interdisciplinary collaboration with physicians, upper level providers, RNs, and other hospital professionals is expected and encouraged. Associated professional responsibility may include being shadowed by healthcare students. Minimum life support certifications include BLS, plus ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire. Other certifications as required per hospital unit or location. In addition to base responsibilities, additional areas of practice may be added to standards with required competency maintenance.
Required Qualifications: - Require an active State of Florida licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) under Florida Statutes, Chapter 468. - Require graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program. - Require American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Require Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within six (6) months of hire.
- Require Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within six (6) months of transfer/hire (Venice Location only).
Preferred Qualifications: - Prefer demonstrated ability to work and plan with others in a team setting while being creative and time effective.
