Propulsion Structural Analyst

PROPULSION STRUCTURAL ANALYSTWork with brilliant, passionate engineers to tackle difficult problems and push the boundaries of rocketry. This is the team that will engineer the rocket engines that will take mankind to Mars.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborate with Propulsion Development Engineers to develop Merlin and Raptor rocket engines.

Anticipate needed analyses and provide input throughout the design cycle.

Perform, document, and present static, dynamic, modal, thermo-mechanical, fatigue and fracture analyses.

Assist in the organization and enhancement of integrated system models.

Seek out and evaluate state-of-the-art analysis techniques and tools.

Review propulsion analyses across the department.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.

2+ years of professional experience in structural analysis of turbomachinery.

Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and commercial tools: ANSYS, Nastran, or Abaqus.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree or PhD in an engineering discipline.

Excellent understanding of fatigue and fracture mechanics principles.

Strong background in solid mechanics and structural dynamics (modal, transient, and random vibration analysis).

Experience in the aerospace industry.

Expert on fatigue, crack initiation, propagation mechanisms and metallic failure prevention.

Familiar with crack growth analysis codes, such as NASGRO or equivalent.

Experience with NASA-STD-5012 and NASA-STD-5019 compliant hardware is a big plus.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to deliver against an aggressive schedule.
