Job Description:General Work Summary: The Staff Radiation Therapist is responsible for the accurate, responsible delivery of radiation as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. The staff therapist will plan, act, and organize his/her activities in such a way as to insure the provision of safe, efficient, cost effective and quality services. The individual in this position will act as a resource to others to assist in understanding the use of therapeutic radiation and its effects. This person will follow direction and conform to the philosophy of the hospital and department.QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Graduate of Certified Radiologic Technology School or Radiation Therapy program.Licensure/Certification:Current applicable state license in Diagnostic Radiologic Technology required.Registered Radiological Technologist A.R.R.T. (R) required. BLS/CPR Certification: Personnel providing direct care in patient care and diagnostic areas are required to acquire and maintain BLS/CPR certification.Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and direction to the age of the patient/client served in this department.Job Specific Expectations:IMAGING: Provides quality images with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of all equipment.Assists with patient transport by moving patients using standard procedures.Working knowledge of all areas within Radiation Oncology including but not limited to:Operating knowledge of Linear Accelerators, External Beam TherapyTreatment Simulation,conforming treatment block manufacturing,Patient scheduling,Patient preparation,Computer interfaces,Technical applications.Dosimetry (understanding the basics)Working knowledge of all clinical and emergency drugs used in the Radiation Therapy department.DOCUMENTATION: Gathers complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurate and timely service to customers.Identifies patient by checking patient's ID, full name and medical record number according to department procedure.Reviews patient chart and orders to insure correct examination.Labels images completely with demographic, position and other needed documentation.Logs activities, gathers charging information and charges exams as required.Follows department and hospital procedures and policies.Performs quality control and quality assurance, records results and reports variance from normal equipment function.PERSONAL & PATIENT CARE AND SAFETY: Provides for personal and patient care and safety using professional judgment in accordance with written standards so there is no injury to self or others.Protects patients and others in the area by using proper machine settings and radiation safety standards.Practices universal and blood and body fluid precautions, and sterile practices according to procedures.Communicates and uses knowledge of related anatomy and physiology to insure appropriate and effective care to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.Maintains awareness of patient status and takes appropriate actions to meet their needs.Secondary FunctionsAttend and contribute to staff meetings and Chart Rounds.Has a working knowledge of secretarial duties including scheduling patients and exam preparation of patients.Has a working knowledge of computerized clinical information and support technology.Capable of preparing and processing Radiation Therapy department requisitions for supplies.The development of policies and procedures that will promote the efficiency and quality of our service.Fairly and consistently deals with personnel actions, and support educational growth through staff involvement and educational opportunities.Position Urgency:NormalShifts:DaysState License Details:Must Be Currently ActiveMinimum Years of Experience:3Minimum Guaranteed Hours:36Specialty Type:Radiation OncologySub Specialty:Radiation TherapistBilingual:NoEMR Used:EPICHoliday Coverage Required:Yes
