Student Assistant - Event Supervisor (Sac State Students Only)

The University Union (UNION) at Sacramento State is looking to hire a Student Assistant - Event Supervisor. The Event Supervisor assists with event management duties in and around the event space prior to and during Ballroom, Redwood Room and Hinde Auditorium events. Works directly with the event sponsor before and during events to ensure proper equipment operation and room set up requirements. Requests assistance through Union management when significant changes to the room are needed. Monitors the progress of events including sound levels, lighting levels, Union policy compliance, audio-visual transitions, room temperature and furnishings. Works with catering supervisor to ensure high service levels and customer satisfaction. Ensures that all audio-visual equipment is accounted for and properly secured during and after each event. Ensures that all room furnishings and set-up equipment is accounted for and properly secured during and after each event. Provides lead direction to the Ballroom set up staff prior to the event to ensure proper compliance with the room set up instructions. Works with supplemental audio-visual equipment and operators when large events require the addition of new, sponsor-provided equipment. Provides regular feedback to the Event Services staff after all assigned events. Provides back-up support for general building operations functions.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check, educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript), or driver clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.
UEI does not allow employees to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one college or center per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI Student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant positing should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week's notice.
Prerequisites
Students working at the University Union or The WELL must be attending classes at Sacramento State during the regular term (Fall, Spring), and enrolled in a minimum of nine (9) semester units for undergraduate students or six (6) semester units for graduate students.

Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per work week (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per work week during breaks; (winter, spring & summer).
Minimum QualificationsPrior supervisory experience is required. Extensive experience in a leadership role may be considered as supervisory experience.Demonstrated skill in working in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing work assignments, coordinating many tasks, and completing assignments with strict attention to detail.Demonstrated ability to work independently with little direct supervision.Ability to lead peers while working alongside them to accomplish tasks in the most efficient manner possible.Ability to provide concise, clear and accurate verbal and written communication to a diverse public and staff.Ability to work a varied schedule, which will include a significant number of nights and weekends.Demonstrated knowledge of safe working practices, including equipment safety guidelines and proper lifting techniques.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in audio-visual equipment and meeting room equipment setup and operation.
