The Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin, in partnership with Ascension Texas, is seeking a skilled and dedicated Thoracic Surgeon to join the Division of Adult Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care. Faculty in the division will be members of the Institute for Cardiovascular Health, representing a fully integrated heart care model. Eligible applicants are board certified (or board eligible within five years of completion of fellowship) by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. We seek individuals with excellent clinical skills, a passion for education, and the potential for scholarly contributions to join a dynamic department in an innovative, growing medical school.

About the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care

The Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care comprises faculty in broad specialties (anesthesiology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, emergency medicine, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology, plastic surgery, and urology) with a focus on delivering outstanding care to the community.

The Department's priorities are:

* To develop new models of person-centered, multidisciplinary care that reward value.

* To educate and train future healthcare leaders.

* To develop research programs to evaluate new care delivery paradigms.

Essential Functions :

* Provision of clinical care to patients with thoracic diseases including lung, esophageal, pleural, mediastinal, and chest wall diseases.

* Management of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

* Proficiency in minimally-invasive thoracic operations with robotic experience highly desired.

* Function as part of a multidisciplinary thoracic oncology team.

* Medical student and resident education.

* Participation in scholarly activity which may include clinical, health services, translational or basic science research.

* Actively participate in the academic department by all required departmental policies.Qualifications

Required Qualifications

* Medical degree from an accredited medical school

* Meets applicable credentialing and privileging standards for thoracic surgery;

* Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas (or the ability to obtain before appointment);

* Eligible applicants will be board certified (or board eligible within five years of completion of fellowship) by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery

* Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary academic environment;

* Outstanding clinical teaching skills;

* Innovative self-starter with a commitment to excellence;

* Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills;

* Eligible for appointment as an Assistant, Associate, or Professor rank in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at Dell Medical School at UT Austin.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience managing and delivering care through a multidisciplinary team;

* Familiarity and experience with value-based healthcare payment and delivery models;
