Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs a variety of assigned duties related to the preparation and service of meals to residents.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Dining Services, and/or General Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position is not responsible for the supervision of other employees or functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION

Organizes resident menus.

Visits units to discuss appropriate menu selections for residents. Enters menu selections and data into Point Click Care Nutrition Management system.

Responsible for printing meal tickets and organizing them in a timely fashion before meals.

Responds to interdepartmental telephone and email inquiries pertaining to resident menu selections.

Generates reports and meal counts as directed by management.

Communicates patient needs to appropriate staff.

Communicates menu selections to resident and assists with selections.

Keeps work areas clean and organized. Maintains computer equipment required for job.

Gathers feedback from residents regarding meal satisfaction. *

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

- Completion of a high school, or general equivalency, diploma;

AND

Must complete Feeding Program training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to follow all facility confidentiality policies.

Ability to follow all facility guidelines for resident visitation.

Ability to manage time effectively, meeting the daily meal needs of all assigned residents.

Ability to clearly communicate resident needs to appropriate staff.

Ability to effectively communicate menu selections to residents.

Ability to work well with others throughout the facility, including nursing staff, dietary department coworkers, clinical team, etc.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Ability to read and write English.

Knowledge of basic math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Ability to learn all stages of the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI) diet, including fluid restrictions.

Knowledge of dietetics and medical terminology as well as the associated abbreviations.

Ability to write neatly and legibly.

Knowledge of computers, tablets, and laptops, including Word and Excel.

Ability to learn the Point Click Care Nutrition Management system.

Ability to remain standing for extended periods of time.

Ability to complete all required training and in-services required for this position.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Computer, laptop, tablet, printer, copier, and other office equipment. Hair restraints are required. Gloves are required when handling food or working in a food preparation area. Personal protective equipment required when on units, as determined by facility administration.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works indoors in office, hospitals, and other areas of a long-term care facility. Works in close physical proximity to others, and may share office space.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately noisy.

I. Medical Insurance

Coverage begins for the employee the first of the month following full-time employment for employees and their eligible dependents. Cost to the employee to participate in the plans varies by the coverage selection and number of dependents; and may be subject to collective bargaining, if a union member. The employee may also elect to opt out of the County's medical insurance if proof of coverage through the spouse's employer is provided. Under this arrangement, the employee is provided with an annual $1,500.00 opt out payment.

II. Vision and Prescription

Coverage begins for the employee the first of the month following full-time employment for employees and their eligible dependents. Copayments may vary, subject to collective bargaining, if a union member. Coverage under the vision plan varies and depends upon the employee's choice of doctor and frame selection.

III. Dental Coverage

Coverage begins for the employee the first of the month following full-time employment for employees and their eligible dependents. Copayments may vary, subject to collective bargaining, if a union member.

IV. Life Insurance

A life insurance policy is afforded to full-time employees beginning on the first day of employment, unless specified differently in a collective bargaining agreement. It remains in effect as long as the employee is actively employed and terminates upon resignation or retirement. $20,000 is afforded to all eligible employees.

V. Retirement

All full-time employees and part-time employees working more than 1000 hours per year qualify for County of Northampton retirement benefits, in which employees must contribute 5% of their earnings, and employees may choose to add additional voluntary contributions, not to exceed an additional 10%. Additionally, employees may participate in an optional deferred compensation plan (457(b)) which may provide present tax advantages and future retirement savings. Such arrangements are made directly with the providers and the County will administer payroll deductions only.
