As a Housekeeper, you'll play a crucial role in providing a safe and sanitary living space for our college community.

Job Summary:
As a Housekeeper at Smith College, you'll contribute to the creation of a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment by maintaining assigned college residential areas in accordance with established procedures. Your role will involve cleaning, organizing, and sanitizing various spaces to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.
Essential Functions:
Clean, organize, and sanitize restroom fixtures, including showers, toilets, bathtubs, sinks, utility sinks, sanicans, shower sheets, and mirrors.
Maintain cleanliness in common areas, including dusting, rearranging furniture, and high dusting of woodwork, pipes, and partitions.
Clean and sweep floors, dry and wet mop tile and wood floors, vacuum carpeted areas.
Sanitize kitchenettes and organize guest rooms, changing bed linen as necessary.
Dust and check fire extinguishers, empty waste baskets, and comply with college recycling practices.
Comply with cleaning frequency requirements for assigned areas.
Attend department meetings and read and comply with departmental notices.
Report maintenance and repair items and assist in documenting damages.
Maintain housekeeping tools and equipment, ensuring an adequate stock for storage areas.
Participate in cleaning teams, support other housekeeping areas as required, and assist with furniture moving and rearranging.
Train weekend student workers and provide guidance to students requesting cleaning supplies.
Minimum Qualifications :
High school/vocational diploma, GED equivalent, or a combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 1 year (preferred) housekeeping/custodial experience in a service-related industry.
Compliance with state and federal guidelines applicable to custodial personnel in an institutional setting.
Successful completion of a background checks
Experience working with diverse backgrounds.
Skills:
Proven track record of good attendance, punctuality, and good judgment.
Proficiency in accessing the internet, using the Smith email system, and the work order system.
Ability to work in various conditions, including hot, humid, or dusty environments.
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and processes, chemical safety, and Materials Safety Data Sheets.
Ability to kneel, crouch, and bend repetitively for extended periods.
Safely lift, carry, and move materials up to thirty pounds, reach and work overhead regularly.
Safely climb step ladders, multiple flights of stairs, and stand and walk for extended periods.
Safely operate housekeeping tools and equipment.
