Position Summary:Toprovide a safe living, learning environment to students (minors) enrolled inthe Upward Bound Summer Program.

Essential Functions:- Supervise a primarilyundergraduate residence hall staff.- Manage operational residence hallfunctions -distribution andcollection of keys, damage assessment, maintenance requests, conduct roomchecks, provide budget needs, etc.- Provide services directly tostudents such as personal and discipline counseling and developmental,cultural and educational programming, provide daily feedback via email.- Cultivate, coordinate, and assistin the development of student leadership and responsibility throughprogramming and direct involvement with students.- Sponsor or assist in thesponsorship of programs in residence halls.- Act as a liaison between full-timeprofessional staff and students, communicating student issues, concerns andresolutions.- Identify, develop and implementstaff training when necessary.- Evaluate the performance ofresident life assistants.- Develop an on-call schedule andmeeting schedule to be posted.- Document and report all incidentswithin a reasonable amount of time.- Assist RAs with creating acommunity that is conducive to students' academic andpersonal success.- Available to work/on call between5pm and 9am daily. In some cases it may require additional time.- Respond to emergency and othersituations during and after normal business hours.- Foster a safe learning and livingenvironment for high school students.- Required to attend training andmeetings.- Perform other duties as requestedby the Director.

Prerequisite Qualifications:- Strong interpersonal, written and verbalcommunication skills.- Bachelor's Degree or higher.- Previous experience in aresidential housing facility, preferable at a college/university.- Leadershipand supervisory abilities.- Required to live in the residence hall for theduration of the summer program.- Must be able to perform in an on-callenvironment.- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects andresponsibilities.- Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgement.- Completea background clearance check, ability to plan, organize, develop and conduct acomprehensive instructional tutoring program for students enrolled in theUpward Bound Program.- Experience working with minority and disadvantagedstudents at the middle school, high school or post-secondary level.- Atthe university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may beexempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of theuniversity, an equivalent combination of education and experience specificallypreparing the candidate for success in the position.
