Chief Development Officer

Reporting to the President and CEO and working closely with the Board of Directors of both Family Houston and Family Service Foundation, the Chief Development Officer (“CDO”) will advance a sustainable and innovative philanthropic development program. While serving as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the CDO will provide strategic leadership in philanthropy to advance Family Houston’s mission through individual giving, government and foundation grants, special events, and major corporate gifts. The CDO works closely with the CEO to develop an actively engaged philanthropic Board of Directors.The CDO will be a highly relational professional with a passion for the mission of Family Houston. The CDO will develop and steward relationships in the Greater Houston metroplex including Harris, Waller, Ft. Bend and Montgomery counties, and serve a key role in the growth of Family Houston. The CDO will lead the development team, be very connected to the philanthropic community, have a successful track record for fund development and a strong understanding of fundraising trends/opportunities.Duties and Responsibilities

Develops and directs a comprehensive annual fundraising plan, setting goals and objectives for the development department. Monitors the achievement of this plan, taking appropriate action to ensure the goals and objectives are met.Develops, implements, and manages all fundraising campaigns to grow and sustain both operating and programming needs.Plans and directs the fundraising activities of Family Houston including individual, corporate, major gifts, and foundation solicitation via donor cultivation, grants, special events, and special projects.In addition, directs the management and activities of gift records, donor management, and recognition efforts.Leads the grants team and oversees all grants and proposals to fund Family Houston programs.Stewards existing donor relationships and strategically develops new donor relationships.Creates and maintains a list of foundations for potential funding opportunities.Identifies giving trends in the greater Houston metroplex and adapts the fundraising plan accordingly.Monitors all donor information, develops and presents statistical analysis and updates to the CEO, Board of Directors and leadership team.Collaborates with the communications team to produce relevant and informative fundraising collaterals for donors and the public, and plans fundraising events that effectively communicate the purposes of Family Houston.Provides direction to assigned staff in the development department in the performance of their duties, establishing work priorities in achieving strategic and operating plan goals, and prepares and manages associated budgets.Oversees and directs the planning of the annual Pillars of Strength Luncheon and any additional fundraising events.When needed, is the face of Family Houston in outreach and media opportunities.Acts as the primary contact for funding, donations, and fundraising events.Develops and oversees the budget for development and marketing.Performs additional duties as identified by the CEO.Requirements and Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s degree preferred.Ten or more years of professional experience with fundraising including annual campaigns, major gifts, grant writing including government grants, marketing, communications, and public relations.Preferred experience in a non-profit, must have management experience.Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) Professional preferred.Both nonprofit and management experience required; corporate business development and/or foundation experience preferred.Must have excellent communication skills both written and oral.Ability to develop and cultivate relationships with top community leaders.Ability to multi-task and problem solve.Experience in leading and developing staff.Knowledge of media and its use in gaining exposure for Family Houston events and programs.Technology proficiency in all Microsoft products as well as Raiser’s Edge.Compensation

This is a salaried, exempt position with a range of $125,000 – $150,000 annually commensurate with relevant skills and experience. Benefits include full medical, dental, and vision benefits, paid time off, short-term and long-term disability and 403b retirement plan.
