Title:Teacher - Vocational-Career Pathway (Industrial Arts) - SecondaryWork Location:Chief Manuelito Middle SchoolWork Hours:7.5 Hours/DayContract Length:194 DaysMinimum Salary:$55,999.00Maximum Salary:$78,443.00To deliver the District educational program by teaching students academic, social and motor skills according to State and District education standards and other appropriate agencies, and to provide equal educational opportunities for all students. Supervision Received and ExercisedReceives general direction from the Principal or designee. May exercise technical and functional supervision over supervisory, professional, technical, clerical, and volunteer staff.Essential Function Statements-Essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Prepare course objectives and outline for course of study following State and District curriculum guidelines or requirements.Lecture, demonstrate, and use audio visual teaching aids to present subject matter to students.Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional and activity purposes; operate and care for various audio visual equipment; operate various office machines to prepare materials.Prepare, administer and correct tests, record results; assign lessons, correct papers, and hear oral presentations.Teach rules of conduct; maintain order in the classroom and on the playground.Maintain a classroom environment conducive to age appropriate learning.Counsel pupils whenadjustment and academic problems arise; discuss pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.Keep attendance and grade records as required by the District.Coordinate class field trips.Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops.Perform all teaching competencies as required by the District and the State.

Marginal Functions:

Participate in and/or share load in extra-curricular student and school activities.Perform related duties as required or assigned.

Qualification RequirementsKnowledge of:

Basic principles of child development including human growth and development, and special education.Classroom management.Content area theories, approved curriculum, and the objectives of assigned area of instruction.Teaching methods andresources for each assigned area of instruction.Modern, effective and innovative teaching practices and techniques.Operation of modern office and classroom equipment including computers.Principles of student growth, development, and learning to enhance student learning and understanding.State and District curriculum guidelines and requirements.Educational foundations of a school district, including the organization, administration, funding resources, and record keeping.Native American communities is the southwest.Cultural diversities of the local area.

Experience and Training Guidelines: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:Experience: One year of related work experience in a school setting is preferred for those candidates with a Bachelor's Degree. Please see work experience required below for those candidates with an Associate's Degree only or a Certificate plus experience or a High School Diploma/GED plus experience.Education: Hold a Bachelor's Degree including 32 credit hours of vocational-technical training related to the occupational areaORAssociate's Degree plus 2 years work experience related to the occupational areaORCertificate plus 3 years of work experience related to the occupational areaORHigh School Diploma/GED plus 5 years of work experience related to the occupational area.Licensure andCertificates: Possession of or ability to obtain a Vocational-Technical teacher's license from the New Mexico Public Education Department. Candidates meeting one of the criteria listed under Education above will be issued a secondary vocational technical license at a Level 1P for 3 years and within those 3 years will need to meet the following requirements:Minimum of 15 semester hours in Secondary Vocational-Technical Education Program including a supervised classroom internship/student teaching experience;OR

Professional Development Plan (PDP) developed by GMCS and approved the the PED, in lieu of completion of the 15 semester hours in Secondary Vocational-Technical Education Program including a supervised classroom internship/student teaching experience;ANDDemonstrate competencies for vocational technical teachers within 3 years of the date of employment.

The employee will occasionally be required to sit, climb stairs/ladders, lift and reach overhead, crawl, and lift/carry. The employee must often lift/carry up to 20 pounds and must frequently lift/carry up to 50 pounds. Full and complete job descriptions available from the Personnel Department.All GMCS schools are eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).You must upload copies of official transcripts or evaluation of foreign transcripts from any and all accredited colleges/universities attended by you for review in order to be considered for this position.Gallup-McKinley County Schools: 2024-2025 SY Incentives Relocation Expenses for New Teachers All New Classroom Teachers & SPED Teachers Up to 100 miles: $2500 101 miles to 299 miles: $3500 300+ miles: $4500 Signing Incentive for New Teachers McKinley County Graduates (HS): $22,000 NM Graduates (HS or College) or Within Navajo Nation Boundaries: $20,000 All Others: $18,000Signing IncentivesRelocation incentive for all new teachers, counselors and administrators will be paid in full on the first paycheck of the school year.All other incentives for teachers, and counselors will be paid out over the course of two school years in four installments. Payment will be made ¼ in December of the first contract year, ¼ in May of the first contract year, ¼ in December of the second contract year and ¼ in May of the second contract year.The incentive will be prorated for hires made after the official work calendar start date but prior to December 31, 2024. Any hires made on or after December 31, 2024,will notbe eligible to receive the signing incentives listed above. Failure to complete the terms of the employment contract in either of the two school years will result in the forfeiture of the entire signing incentive and relocation incentive. Signing Incentives are effective February 5, 2024.Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for the signing incentives, you must be a new employee who was not employed in any position or certified capacity by GMCS during the 2024-2025 school year.

Exception: Employees moving job class level up to new position (EA to Teacher or Teacher to Principal)
