Diocese of RichmondEmployment TypeFull TimeLocationVarious Locations, VAPosted DateMarch 27, 2024Position Summary:The Catholic Diocese of Richmond is seeking a Director of Campus Ministry for Historically Black Colleges and Universities to serve the Catholic Campus Ministry communities of Norfolk Statue University, in Norfolk; Hampton University, in Hampton; Virginia Union University, in Richmond and Virginia State University, in Petersburg.The Director of Campus Ministry is responsible for all ministry and evangelization efforts on each of the four HBCU campuses in Virginia. Students are served through evangelization, pastoral care, liturgies, catechesis and programs offered by campus ministry. The Director also works with staff and faculty members of the universities as well as alumni and parents. The Director collaborates closely with offices on each campus to ensure students have access to resources that help them to thrive.The Director is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive campus ministry program including aspects of Evangelization, Word, Worship, Community and Service that are consistent with Diocesan standards and benchmarks.The Director represents the Catholic Church on campus and responds to the needs of the Catholic community by acting as liaison between the ministry and the university administrations. The Director ensures a close working relationship with local parishes.Requirements:Practicing Catholic in good standingThrough knowledge of Church teachings and theology with the ability to relate that knowledge to young adults in a campus ministry settingFamiliar with relevant church documents pertaining to ministry and evangelizationKnowledge of adolescent and young adult development, spiritual development and applicationAbility to articulate a clear ministry vision and set appropriate milestones to accomplishing the visionExceptional people skillsExceptional oral communication skillsAbility to work well in a multi-faith and multicultural settingsAbility to empathize with othersSelf-motivated, works easily alone or with othersAbility to maintain confidentialityDetail-oriented and highly organizedAbility to multitask and prioritize tasks in an office setting and at eventsAbility to interact with faculty and staff at a peer academic levelAbility to recognize the unique development needs of University studentsAbility to work with diverse groups related to student life and healthStrong computer and digital communication skillsEducation Required:A minimum of a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in a field related to theology or pastoral ministry is required.3-5 years of prior experience in pastoral work, preferably campus ministry.Working Conditions:This is a full-time (40 hours per week), in-person, exempt professional ministry position. Night and weekend work is necessary primarily during the academic year. Regular, weekly schedule will be required. A physical presence on the local campus is required on a weekly basis as well. The position also requires travel to campus ministers’ meetings and other diocesan events, reimbursable through the approved budget. The coordinator will work regularly with the Diocesan Associate Director of the Office for Evangelization, the pastor and staff of parishes local to the universities, faculty, staff and students of Norfolk State University, Hampton University, Virginia State University, and Virginia Union University as well as other Diocesan Campus Ministers.
