JOB DESCRIPTIONTo provide exposure to Mountaire's culture as well as specified areas of our operation in which the intern is designated to during their internship. This program is intended to provide learning opportunities by working hands-on with mentors and completing assigned projects. The purpose of this project is to compare bottom turning at our Mount Vernon Hatchery to top and on-rack turning at the Siler City Hatchery.

The intern will gather all pre-hatch and post hatch data.

The data collection will be categorized by moisture loss, egg temperatures and residue breakouts as well as 3-day and 7-day mortalities. This trial will be completed on eggs from three different age breeder hens. The information gathered will be used to determine the best type of egg turning to be used for future expansion and/or equipment upgrades.

Primary ProjectSplit eggs from same breeder flocks in three sections

Set eggs in incubators that are using three different types of turning

Perform moisture loss and eggshell temperatures before hatch Hatch day, perform residue breakouts.

Ensure hatch, HOF and cull percentages are correct

On farm, ensure chicks are placed in the correct housesCalculate 3-day and 7-day mortality for all 3 different styles of turning Repeat the step above 2 more times using a different breeder age Duties/Activities Required by JobComplete assigned project identified by department mentorAttend weekly seminar series across different Mountaire facilities

All interns must be available to travel to Delaware during the last week of the program for final presentations (August 5-9, 2024)All interns are required to complete a 10-minute presentation on their project at the conclusion of summer. Presentations will take place in Millsboro, DE at the Administrative Building during the week of August 5-9thAll interns must complete a mid-way evaluation (week 5) along with a final evaluation (week 10) Educations/Experience RequirementsCurrently obtaining or have obtained an associates or bachelors degreePoultry Science Major PreferredAbility to work in a team environment, self-motivated and accepting of challenges, detail oriented

Outgoing with a positive attitude, willingness to ask questions, learn, and engage with the management and hourly workforce

Must be dependable and able to work early mornings
