The Director of Donation Services and Allocation oversees the placement and distribution of organs and tissues for transplant, research or education purposes. This 24/7 operation requires in-depth knowledge of policy and procedure regarding placement and allocation of organs and tissues. The incumbent also helps manage relationships with external partners such as tissue processors, researchers, and transplant centers.Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:Leads the team that performs organ, tissue, and research allocationCollaborates with senior leadership to set the strategic vision for STA’s organ and tissue programsResponsible for tracking and trending metrics along with adjusting practices to meet goalsCollaborates with all levels of leadership to create and maintains an efficient allocation processLeads the development of operational standards, policies, and procedures of the departmentMaintains effective relationships with key stakeholders including, but not limited to transplant centers, tissue processors, and researchersParticipates in on-call duties and accountable for the 24/7 operations of the departmentInvolved in quality improvement projects to reduce inefficiencies and increase donation opportunitiesEnsures compliance with all related policies and standards that govern the donation processCreates and maintains department budget, headcount, and other related controlsOversees department’s compliance with timekeeping, expenses, and documentationEnsures effective call intake when needed to support the referral intake teamEnsures appropriate dispatch of tissue recovery teams and logistics of organ OR planningAssists with building and implementing strategy for research opportunities to advance the medical communityAccountable for teams’ coordination and release of the donated gift to its destinationPerforms other duties as assignedCompliance:OSHA CATEGORY DEFINITION: Category 2- The incumbent in this position has potential for occupational exposureThe incumbent will have access to confidential material and is required to use discretion with this information and comply with STA Confidentiality policyEducation, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required5 years of relevant work experience requiredLeadership and management experience requiredExtensive knowledge of organ and tissue regulations related to allocation of organs and tissues is requiredIn depth knowledge of the OPO industry and federal regulatory standards and Texas law regarding anatomical gifts. Maintains awareness of identified industry best practices.Demonstrated experience in creating and delivering quality training and educational materials and programs. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and to represent the organization publicly.Qualifications and Skills:Excellent oral, written, and documentation skillsAbility to work in a 24/7 environmentAbility to work both independently and as part of a team requiredAbility to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workloadAbility to be flexible in a dynamic work environmentAbility to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto in order to meet all job duties and responsibilitiesPHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT / WORKING CONDITIONS:Normal office environment and is required to use his/her private automobile in order to meet all the duties and responsibilities of this position.OTHER:Southwest Transplant Alliance maintains a policy of nondiscrimination with employees and applicants for employment.
