Fire Protection Engineer
with a minimum of eight+ years of experience: skills will include, but not limited to: automatic suppression system design; fire detection, alarm and communication system design; code analysis; egress analysis; fire resistant construction analysis; smoke control analysis; as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts and research.
Desired Skills and Duties
Develop client relationships, pursue new business opportunities, and develop proposals.
Provide project management for multiple projects including project planning, staffing, financial management, and successful project delivery.
Provide fire protection consulting engineering services to a variety of potential clients, including but not limited to architects, developers, owners, government, and insurers.
Provide fire and life safety code consulting for relevant ICC (IBC, IFC, IMC) codes and NFPA standards.
Develop fire models, smoke control models/analysis, and pressurization models/analysis.
Review and provide consulting for life safety, building, and fire code compliance.
Perform structural fire calculations.
Develop fire safety strategies for special hazards.
Deliver prescriptive and performance-based design strategies.
Design fire alarm, fire detection, and fire suppression systems.
Review, develop, and commission smoke control systems.
Perform site visits and communicate with AHJ, architects, contractors, and consulting teams.
Participate in and lead internal team meetings and external client meetings.
Present design approaches to authorities having jurisdictions.
Collaborate with multiple teams across multiple offices in a multi-discipline environment.
Manage profitability of projects and maintain working relationship with clients.
Perform research and documentation for internal and external distribution.
Attend and participate in local and national trade organizations, such as SFPE and NFPA.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Engineering from accredited college or university in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Sciences, or related engineering field.
A minimum of 6 years of professional working experience in Fire Protection.
A minimum of 2 years managing projects.
A P.E. license in Fire Protection Engineering or in the process of achieving this professional credential.
Strong communication skills essential for a team-based and team-leading working environment.
Excellent planning and organizational skills required for our fast-paced environment; must be highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges.
Solid understanding of relevant software, including FDS, CONTAM, egress modeling software, AutoCAD, Revit, BlueBeam, and the Microsoft Office suite of software.
