Overview

National Award-Winning Engineering Firm is seeking a highly motivated Drainage/Water Resources Engineer to join their Illinois Transportation team. They are looking for a technically capable engineer who can develop relationships and eventually build their own team of dedicated stormwater professionals. Candidates will lead drainage studies, stormwater design, and plan production teams to successfully deliver state-wide transportation infrastructure projects. Candidates should have experience working on transportation projects in Illinois, preferably for IDOT and the Illinois Tollway, with direct involvement in stormwater components such as storm sewer, detention/retention basins, culverts, roadside ditches, and stormwater quality best management practices (BMPs).

Responsibilities

Lead a team of engineers and drafters

Interact and coordinate effectively with team members, subconsultants, clients, and other outside agencies

Assist in the development of junior staff

Prepare design calculations and technical reports for drainage studies

Develop plans, profiles, specifications, and estimates for transportation and other water resources projects

Assist with the preparation of proposals and contracts

Participate in quality control/quality assurance

Develop client relationships

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering

Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within six (6) months

Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is preferred but not required

6+ years of progressive experience in drainage studies and water resources design for transportation infrastructure projects

Strong understanding of Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and Illinois Tollway policies, standards and procedures

Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Bentley products (Microstation/GEOPAK/ORD, ProjectWise, StormCAD), Bluebeam Revu, and Hydrologic and Hydraulic (H&H) modeling

Ability to work independently and take the initiative to perform tasks

Good decision-making skills, flexibility, focus on quality, and attention to detail

Excellent communication skills
