Position Summary:
Drives bus to safely transport students over specified routes to local or distant points according to established transportation schedule. This position will work approximately 30 hours/week, Monday through Friday with opportunity for additional hours via afternoon and evening field trips.
Essential Functions:Assists students embarking and disembarking vehicle and be able to safely evacuate students during an emergencyRegulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfortComplies with local traffic regulationsMaintains constant radio contact and reports delays or accidentsReports break downs, including flat-tires, and requests assistance or replacement busInspects bus and checks gas, oil, water and litter before departureInspects bus for damage to interior (seats, etc.) and exterior (dents, broken lights, etc.)May transport students on field trips or athletic eventsQualifications
A high school diploma or general education diploma (GED) is requiredAble to communicate effectively with all school constituentsMust be at least 25 years old and have at least 1-year successful driving experience as school bus driverMust have a clean driving record and pass Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) checkAbility to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memosAbility to add and subtract simple numbers; Ability to transfer simple numbers legibly to transportation logsMust have or be eligible to obtain a valid, current Florida CDL license C or D within reasonable period from date of hire; class B license with a P & S endorsement is requiredMust have use of both hands, both feet, be able to sit for long periods of time, have eye-to-hand coordinationThe employee will be required to pass Dept. of Transportation (DOT) physical; employee must be able to pass the physical mobility test and emergency evacuation test and will be required to submit to testing periodicallyRequires successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screenGeneral:
