Assigned Campus_______________________________________________ Position Summary: Plan and provide speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice, fluency or language disorders. Assess students and provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with the students' ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university Valid School Service Personnel License Valid Tennessee Speech-Language Pathologist License Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions Ability to instruct and manage behavior Excellent organizational, communication, time management, record keeping, and interpersonal skills Ability to operate a computer and the skills to learn and utilize software and other technology in instruction Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other professionals in a team setting Ability to interact positively and effectively with parents, students, staff, and administrators Ability to travel district wide as needed Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time Ability to lift, carry, and position students with physical disabilities as needed Ability to work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under pressure

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Conduct independent evaluations to assess, screen and evaluate students with speech and/or language disorders and conditions. Effectively share results with parents and educational staff and participate in the eligibility determination process in accordance with state and school division requirements and best practice. Develop and implement IEPs for students with speech/language impairment and assist with IEPs for students with speech/language as a related service on an annual basis or according to requirements. Provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Comply with all Medicaid requirements for school-based claiming, including obtaining written Medicaid consent from parents of all students served and timely completion of reports. Provide consultative services for school staff by sharing and demonstrating specific techniques and working with school teams to facilitate relevant and consistent interventions for targeted students. Maintain records and information concerning individual students in the prescribed confidential manner and using the records and information only for the purposes for which they are maintained according to FERPA and HIPAA guidelines. Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with administrative and school staff. Participate in various meetings for the purpose of addressing student goals and needs, and to meet laws and policies. Maintain and submit information/records including student progress for all students. Share with other staff members the responsibility for school activities and student supervision. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules and regulations, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. May supervise licensed speech-language pathology assistant(s). Obtain any certifications as requested by the district Any other duties as determined by the Director of Schools, Special Education Supervisor, and/or the McMinn County Board of Education.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with evaluation procedures, policy, and regulations of the Tennessee Department of Education.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used : Standard office equipment including personal computer, Standard testing equipment Posture : Frequent sitting and standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion : Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching, frequent walking grasping/squeezing Lifting : Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) and occasional lifting between 15-30 pounds Environment : Work inside, occasional districtwide travel as requested by administration Mental Demands : Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress, may work prolonged or irregular hours
