GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

The GIS Software Developer is responsible for working with other software developers, GIS developers, and railroad subject-matter experts to develop new user-facing applications, dashboards, maps, and tools. You will design and deploy dashboards combining spatial and non-spatial data, and work with internal and external customers to develop a seamless GIS platform. This position will work with other GIS professionals in our Virtual Rail group. Loram's GIS users rely on our platform to monitor rail asset health, planned and ongoing maintenance, and track the location of our fleet of rail maintenance equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Functional & Technical SkillsCollaborate with GIS analysts, product managers, and cross-functional teams to gather and define requirements for software projects.Design and develop GIS applications and tools that enable efficient data visualization, analysis, and reporting.Implement location-based services and geospatial functionalities within web and mobile applications.Write well-documented, clean, and maintainable code that follows best practices and coding standards.Utilize libraries, APIs, and SDKs to enhance the capabilities of software applications.Stay up to date with advancements in GIS technology and software engineering trends.Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing sessions with team members.Experience in Agile development methodologies, system development lifecycles, tools, and technologySupport regional rail maintenance planning by performing spatial analysis, producing cartography and other data visualization, developing data sets, automating spatial and tabular data processing, and building web-based tools for data exploration.BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES:

Education:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in geography, computer science, or a related field.

Experience:

3+ years of experience in a position with a software development focus.

Proficiency in GIS platforms, including Esri ArcGIS Pro, ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise, ESRI ArcGIS Online, QGIS, PostGIS, Safe Software FME or similarExperience with ESRI Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, MapBox, or Carto GIS application developmentExperience with geospatial libraries, frameworks, and APIs for web mapping and spatial analysis - Esri JavaScript, Leaflet, Mapbox GL, and OpenLayersExperience Acreating maps using GIS softwareWeb application development using cloud-based GIS tools such as ArcGIS Online, CARTO, or MapBoxWeb application programming such as jQuery, D3, OpenLayers, Leaflet, or Google MapsTechnical Knowledge (Other):

Develop, implement, and maintain web applications using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other front-end technologies.Demonstrable ability to work with product stakeholders to translate wireframes, mockups, and prototypes into high-quality user interface designs.Implemented, worked with, and maintained design systems and style frameworksExperience building and working with front-end frameworks such as Vue or ReactFamiliarity with version control systems like Git and agile development methodologies.Experience with AWS or AzureFlex Work Eligible:

This position qualifies for the Flexible Work Policy. Employees receive 50 workdays annually to work remotely. The initial number of days is prorated for the first year based on the start date.
