Focus on learning about the company and your roleComplete all company and department-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs) and trainingsLearn about your team structure and the individuals who are part of itDiscover the systems that are used in the companyUnderstand the processes that the company follows
Within 60 days
Focus on contributing to the company's overall mission and departmental objectivesDevelop a good understanding of the people, systems, and processesIdentify gaps in the current processes and systemsBecome familiar with our California campusesFamiliarize yourself with the SolarWinds tool
Before the end of 90 days
Use your knowledge and experience gained in the first 60 days to triage and completed requests and incidents, as necessaryBe able to analyze traffic going through the firewallBecome familiar with our remote offices network infrastructureHave a strong understanding of our network topology

Troubleshoot issues with local-area network (LAN) and wide-area network (WAN) infrastructuresConfigure internet protocol (IP) networks consisting of switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, and network monitoring devices for local data centers and intermediate distribution frames (IDFs) across all Applied Medical campusesOperate daily authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) services, such as Cisco ISE and network monitoring systemsOperate Cisco Digital Network Architecture (DNA) Center, Cisco Common Services Platform Collector (CSPC), and other network management toolsMaintain corporate network infrastructures using HP and Cisco products, such as switches, routers, wireless access points, Firepower firewalls, and adaptive security appliances (ASAs)Integrate core network monitoring services with other systems through use of services, such as application programming interface (API) and pxGridParticipate in technology integration efforts and projects with other cross-functional teamsDesign and implement projects for the Network teamLead projects by collaborating with other team members and project management teamsPropose solutions and create network designs that meet the project's needs and actively participating in all project meetingsTroubleshoot and complete ticket requestsDevelop business continuity protocols to minimize disruption in business operations in the event of emergency situations or data lossProvide recommendations for improvements to establish efficiency and efficacy standards within the departmentEvaluate, plan, and execute changes consistent with current technology trendsAct as an operations escalation point for service exceptions in an on-call rotationDesign and execute complex change management activities in accordance with departmental policies and proceduresFoster and maintain relationships with external vendors, service providers, and customersDraw network diagramsTrain and instruct other NOC engineers
Position Requirements:This position requires the following skills and attributes:Bachelors degree in Information Technology (IT), or a related fieldCisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certificationMinimum of two years experience or equivalent working as a NOC Engineer or in network operationsMinimum of four years experience or equivalent working in IT, or a related fieldAdvanced knowledge of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), dynamic routing protocols, Cisco and HP switches, firewalls, routers, wireless access points, network access control systems, AAA services, Cisco ISE, Cisco (DNA) Center, and Linux serversExperience configuring, managing, and setting up effective monitoring alerts on SolarWinds or another network monitoring toolProficient with Microsoft VisioPerform physical activities, such as lifting and relocating equipment, climbing heights to carry out cabling tasks, and working in enclosed spacesEffective oral and written communication skillsTechnical aptitude and detail orientedStrong project management and multitasking skillsWork outside of normal working hours during maintenance windows and planned movesOpen to on-going trainings and certifications, as neededTravel, as needed
