Through our unique models, Apex empower physicians to truly manage a patient’s health, delivering high quality, affordable care in a modern, patient focused approach.The Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer is responsible for the strategic design, development, deployment, and maintenance of BI solutions and applications and analytical reports. The BI Engineer will work closely with team members to employ standardized processes using clinical and administrative data as well as apply business rules. The candidate will work with Apex stakeholders, business analysts, and data engineers to design and develop BI applications, including data models, databases, data marts, visualizations, dashboards, and reporting and alerts, based on defined business functional and technical requirements. In this role, the BI Engineer will play a critical role in connecting our partners and enabling our critical solutions through Apex’s use of actionable data and empowering processes through harmonized data across the entire spectrum from care provision, claim payment and process visibility.Essential FunctionsDesign, develop, deploy, and maintain BI solutions, including data models, data marts, visualizations, dashboards, and reports.Works with Apex stakeholders and team members to analyze BI needs and translates needs to technical specifications.Create, update, and maintain business and technical documentation.Interprets business and technical requirements and determines optimum BI solutions to meet needs.Conduct source to target data mapping exercises for data sources.Profile data sets for completeness and validity, and build automated SQL scripts to assess completeness, validity, and other data metrics.Support Quality Analysts to develop and test use case scenarios and testing requirements to ensure validity of data and BI solution meets functional and technical requirements.Research, evaluate, and assess the impact of issues identified in data and/or processes.Develop and execute database queries to analyze health data from disparate data sources, including clinical and administrative data and other sources procured by the organization.Gather and interpret data for leadership and aid in the decision-making process using statistical techniques and creating data visualizations and reports.Design and build visualization dashboards and reports for projects to accelerate information-to-action at scale using data from disparate data sources and various tools like Power BI, Tableau, SAS, and SSRS.Develop BI solutions that measure performance and monitor organizational processes against outcome measures.Design and develop organizational-wide and custom “views” and reports.Work with data engineers to design, build, and maintain data-centric pipelines to establish connectivity across the Apex network of payers and providers within our Azure cloud-based environment.Work with data engineers to continually improve ongoing data pipelines and simplify self-service support for business stakeholders.Analyze requirements, processes, and issues to automate reporting and processing.Identifies and provides input to new technology opportunities that will have impact on Apex technology platform.Build strong interdepartmental relationships to ensure thorough alignment across all departments for optimal business results.Work closely with the business units to gain in-depth understanding of business strategy, processes, services, and the context in which the business operates.Works with Apex stakeholders to analyze operational processes and trends and identify issues.Provides oversight and resolves complex issues, optimizing performance, resolving problems, and providing timely follow-up on identified issues.Performs other duties as assigned.EducationA Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field preferred.Experience3+ years of relevant work experience in a role requiring application of BI, data science, statistics, data modeling, and analytic skills.Proficient with database concepts and technologies (MS SQL Server), data marts, programming language (SQL/SAS/R/Python), reporting and visualization tools (Power BI/Tableau).Experience working in environment using Agile/SCRUM methodologies and principles.Knowledge of data modeling, data architecture, and data governance concepts.Demonstrated advanced data analytics, data mining, and data visualization skills.Ability to communicate and make recommendations to management.Demonstrated advanced interpersonal/verbal and written communication skills.Demonstrated advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to work as part of a team.Self-starter, with a strong work-ethic and attention to detail.Strong statistical analysis knowledge and skills with experience leveraging SAS, Python, and/or R to perform in-depth data analysis.Strong understanding of health data, including managed care, population health, or health insurance operations.Familiarity with working in a regulated industry.
