JOB DESCRIPTION:

The primary responsibilities of the coordinator of student services will be to coordinate and supervise special education programs/services. The coordinator will provide districtwide leadership for effective program development and be responsible for evaluating and monitoring programs and services to assure implementation consistent with state and federal mandates. The diverse nature of programs and services coordinated will require ongoing planning and coordination with directors, building administrators, and leadership staff within the curriculum and special services departments. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Services.

DISTRICT OVERVIEW:

Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,900 staff members, serving approximately 13,300 students pre-K - post secondary. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center, and 1 vocational and transition center in the school district. The annual budget for Livonia Public Schools is $175 million, with a state funding of $9,608 per pupil.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Eligibility for approval as a supervisor of special education by the state of Michigan under the State Special Education Code or eligible for temporary approval.Master's degree in an area of Special Education with at least 5 years experience.Demonstrated leadership experience in special education program development and coordination.Previous administrative or leadership experience is preferred.Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.Successful experience in planning and providing professional development on a variety of topics including but not limited to: IEP compliance, process and procedures, behavior, and MTSS and academic strategies.Knowledge, at the evaluation and analysis levels of special education and related rules, regulations, and guidelines for IDEA, MARSE and 504.Demonstrated ability and experience in working cooperatively with others including staff, teachers, students, families, and the community.MAJOR FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Embrace the District's mission, vision and collective commitments in order to make decisions that reflect the District's philosophy that places the needs of children and their education first.Facilitate the development and supervision of special education programs, services and staff for selected pre-K through post-secondary programs.Assists in the recruitment, selection, and recommendation for hiring of special education teachers and staff.Provide leadership to programs to assist staff and parents in evaluating educational needs and in modifying or selecting programs and activities to meet these needs.Provide coordination for professional and paraprofessional inservice activities and training for curriculum including Essential Elements.Provide assistance to building administrators and other leadership staff in the development of programs, evaluation of staff, refinement of procedures, and budgetary decisions and approvals.Assure that the programs and services coordinated by this administrator are in compliance with specialized state and federal requirements.Experience with implementation of Mi Access and possesses an understanding of Catamaran, Special Education Indicators, IFSP, transition from part C to B and secondary transition.Executes other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

The work year, salary, and fringe benefits will be consistent with the current agreement between the Board of Education and the Livonia Education Administrators.
