Substation Physical Design Engineer

MKEC is looking for a Substation Physical Design Engineer to join our Electric Utility team in our Overland Park office.
Responsibilities:
Electrical Engineering bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited program.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Kansas required.
Development of substation design drawings which may include:
General Arrangements & Layouts
Elevations & Section Details
Below Grade Conduit Plans & Schedules
Lightning Protection Plans/Analysis
Ground Grid Design & Grounding Details
Bill of Materials (BOM)
Control Building Layouts & Equipment
Develop bid documents and material specifications.
Review vendor submittals and provide analysis/feedback.
Efficiently & effectively communicate design requirements and collaborate with other disciplines of the company including structural, civil, survey, land development, etc. on a regular basis.
Generate reports on occasion.
Perform work in a timely manner to meet established milestones and/or deadlines.
Occasionally interface with clients to discuss design details and support construction tasks.
Serve as mentor to other engineers in the group.
Provide engineering expertise to develop design solutions and meet client needs in a timely manner.
Requirements:
Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited program.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Minimum of 5-7 years of work experience related to Substation Physical Design required.
Knowledgeable on applicable codes and industry standards including the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), Rural Utility Service (RUS) Bulletins & applicable IEEE Standards.
Proficient with various software packages including AutoCAD, Mathcad, and other design tools.
Experience with PLS-POLE/CADD, Osmose O-Calc Pro, ETAP, Milsoft WindMil/LightTable, SKM Power Tools, Substation Design Suite (SDS), etc. desirable.
Candidate must possess a mechanical aptitude with knowledge of power system design and operations.
Ability to use office administrative and collaboration software (MS Office, Teams, etc.).
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Candidates must be self-motivated, highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and tasks while working in a team environment.
Occasional travel for site visits and client meetings may be required.
