The Patient Service Coordinator serves as a member of the healthcare team as an organized, efficient colleague with expertise communicating to customers, family members, physicians, providers and healthcare team members.

Coordinates and provides administrative support for nursing staff under the direction of the Director or Nurse Manager.

Supports the delivery of the department’s services.

Contributes to the overall goals of Medical Surgical Services which in turn ensures high quality patient care.

Responsibilities

Greets all patients, families, physicians and staff that present to the unit, and answers the phone with a welcoming attitude and ascertains their needs.

Monitors security cameras and patient visitors into Pediatric unit and rooms.

Communicates and coordinates any unresolved patient/family issues promptly to unit leadership.

Answers the patients’ needs directly.

Reports needs promptly to proper authority including physicians.

Assists in scheduling follow-up and healthcare team appointments for patients.

Makes guest relation rounds twice daily for any immediate needs of family or staff, ex. – blankets, water, coffee etc.

Serves as a resource for patients and patients’ families needing direction or information.

Assist in getting patient rooms ready for admissions.

Assists in maintaining a neat and orderly patient rooms, nurse’s station and kitchenette.

Assists with escorting families who are being discharged.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED

Minimum of 2 years secretarial or comparable work experience or equivalent education.

Internal applicants within Allen, with 2 years of demonstrated and documented experience of exceeding the performance expectations in patient care and living our values, may be considered.

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

Ability to read, write and speak English.

Excellent telephone manner, respect for confidentiality.

Ability to work for a large multitude of the management team and physicians.

Demonstrates ability to work on several projects simultaneously, function effectively with disruptions and work independently.
