ONE CURRENT VACANCY
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to function as a Collection System Technician engaged in installation, maintenance and repair of sewerage collection systems and lift stations of the City. Collection System Technicians must adhere to established safety and accident prevention policies, procedures, and standards. Performs related work as directed.
Duties of Responsibilities

Functions of this class may be divided into four (4) distinct areas: Customer Service, Repair, Inspection, and Lift Stations.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Functions as crew member engaged in maintenance of the City's sewerage collection system and lift stations, i.e., cleaning and flushing lines, cleaning manholes, cleaning screens.
Functions as crew member engaged in construction and repair of the City's sewerage collection system and lift stations, i.e., new connections, force mains, manholes, main lines. Ensures accurate location of all utility lines; oversees the excavation, bracing and shoring of trenches, and the use of all equipment required to perform the work.
Investigates and handles complaints concerning the sewerage collection system, i.e., odor complaints, yard sinkage, street sinkage, and missing manhole covers.
Investigates and runs various tests in identifying problems, i.e., TV inspections, smoke testing, dye flooding.
Completes service requests and work orders for the maintenance and repair of sewerage collections systems and lift stations.
Responsible for transportation of materials, supplies, and equipment to job site.
Maintains responsibility for work activity records, and equipment, tools, and supplies usage and inventory per work site.
Participates in all facets of work under the Wastewater Department and assist other City Departments if needed, and provides mechanical and technical guidance and support to crews in proper methods and techniques.
Operates dump trucks, backhoes, transport vans, excavation equipment, vacuum trucks, wash out trucks, and other vehicles and equipment as needed.
Reports any complaints, incidents, accidents, or conflicts arising at work sites; responds to emergency call outs.
Work together with other departments/divisions as appropriate.
Provides general information to the public/residents concerning the sewerage collection system and maintenance and repair activities. Works with contractors where applicable.
CUSTOMER SERVICE FUNCTIONS
Responds to service requests from the public.
Performs smoke testing of gravity sewer main lines, service lines and lateral lines.
Performs dye testing of sink holes and cracked sidewalks near sewer infrastructure.
Interacts with the public daily and provides the actions that were taken and the actions that may need to be taken to their supervisors.
Operates and maintains equipment associated with the operation of a wastewater collection system.

Assist in the deployment and fueling of generators when required.
Verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and takes corrective action.
Accurately completes all service requests and equipment work orders and submits the documentation to the supervisor to ensure completion and accuracy.
Assures that his/her work is performed in a safe and professional manner by following established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures.

LIFT STATION FUNCTIONS
Visually inspects lift stations to ensure proper working conditions and listens for proper operation.
Replaces oils, belts, bearings, impellers, rotating assemblies, packing, and gaskets.
Cleans floats, transducers, pumps, motors, and cables when required.
Replaces parts, floats, transducers, suction flaps, and fuses.
Install odor blocks and aeration equipment in lift station wet wells.
Assists in the deployment, installation and fueling of pumps and generators.
Responds to SCADA alerts and alarms.
Works with SCADA Tech Support.
Assists Collection System personnel and Plant personnel when needed.
Completes preventative and corrective maintenance documentation.
Record pump, motor, and equipment information for each lift station.
Learn to operate fork lift, bobcat, backhoe, and crane.
Understand Lift Station Flow Chart.
Works after hours and overnight during plant and or lift station shut downs.
Reports electrical outages to supervisor and to Entergy. The technician must wait at the lift station until Entergy arrives.
Notifies supervisor of product inventory and of vendors from which to obtain quotes for equipment and supplies.
Calibrate chemical feed pumps at lift stations.
Performs cleanup and housekeeping tasks for work area, tools, and equipment.ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Operate various hand and power tools and equipment, i.e., drill presses, hydraulic equipment, arc welders.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a wide variety of pump mechanical equipment and attendant devices.
Operate a crane truck if required.
Provide training, guidance and technical support to unskilled and semi-skilled personnel as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies.Minimum Qualifications
