Job Description
Under the direction of a Trust Tax manager/supervisor, the Trust Tax Officer I is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate tax compliance for all assigned accounts. Assists in business unit's compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.
Responsibilities
Effectively prepares accurate tax returns including individual, corporate, partnership, non-profit, trust, estate and gift on a timely basis. Demonstrates a clear understanding of the federal, state, and local tax laws. Analyzes accounts for estimated income taxes and minimizes the amount of related underpayment penalties so they do not exceed the acceptable levels established by the Trust Tax Department.Maintenance of engagements including timekeeping, due date tracking, account set-up and account closing.Makes innovative use of technology (i.e. ONESOURCE, ProSystem fx Suite, BNA) to enhance efficiency. Conducts basic tax research, training, and development under the direction of a supervisor to improve on tax technical knowledge.Manage engagement budget and work in process to ensure engagements are profitable. Communicates effectively with internal and external clients the progress of engagements.Communicates with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents, state and local taxing authorities and other departments to resolve issues and develop their confidence and respect. Writes memos, emails and letters with clear and precise language; presents ideas in a logical manner.Communicates progress, difficulties and solutions to supervisors.Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience.EDUCATION: Minimum 3 years of related experience in taxation or equivalent work experience. Must have an understanding of relevant income tax laws and regulations.TECHNICAL SKILLS: Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with personal computers and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) or similar software. Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems. Experience with tax software preferred.OTHER JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Must be analytical, detail oriented and organized. Must be able to meet deadlines, handle multiple priorities and possess good project management skills. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and with others. Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed or assigned.
