The Senior Engineer, Systems Engineering is responsible for creating and maintaining availability and high-performance in mixed Linux and Windows development, non-production, and production environments. This individual works as part of a results-oriented, service-delivery team and assists developers, configuration analysts, release engineers, and operations teams. Additionally, the Senior Engineer performs root cause analysis of problems, selects, develops, and implements automation tools, and actively participates in deeply technical discourse.
ResponsibilitiesAssist in the design, planning and implementation of server solutionsTune and design systems infrastructure for maximum available performanceAutomation of manual tasks using scripting and application developmentInvestigate and adopt new technologies/tools as needs ariseRespond to and assist in production operations in a 24/7 environmentEvaluate, test, and integrate new operating system versions, drivers, and patchesProvide technical analysis, resolve problems, and propose solutionsProvide support to, and coordinate with, developers, operations staff, release engineers, and end-usersEducate and mentor team members and operations staffParticipate in a weekly on-call rotation for after-hours supportKnowledge and Experience
5+ years of experience with the Linux Operating System (RedHat variants preferred)Fluent speaking, reading, and writing in EnglishSolid experience coding with any combination of Perl, Ruby, Bash, PowerShell, Python, Java, API's, and othersDemonstrable knowledge of multi-tiered, highly available, and resilient application designKnowledge of horizontal and vertical scaling for performance and high availabilityAdvanced Linux administration and engineering including, but not limited to, kernel tuning, performance testing, and benchmarkingTop-tier analytics and problem solvingAbility to work in a service-oriented team environmentProject Management, organization, and time managementCustomer focused, and dedicated to the best possible user experienceCommunicate effectively with both technical and business resourcesDesired
Degree in engineering discipline or equivalent experience in Systems EngineeringExposure to and familiarity with Kafka, Cloudera, Hadoop, or similarExposure to AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, or other container technologiesExperience with automation/configuration management using either Puppet, Chef, Ansible or an equivalentFamiliarity with git, foreman, Jenkins, or equivalent
