Yaskawa is currently looking for an

Applications Engineer

to join our team. In this role, you will provide technical expertise and know-how to assist customers in the use of Yaskawa products and services to improve their application and processes. Working closely with our sales team, you will develop relationships with customers fostering “value add” growth opportunities and enhance the utilization of Yaskawa products and services. You will provide product, application, and process knowledge for projects and solutions from concept to completion.

More specifically, this role will have influence in the following areas:

Technical Support

Perform product and application training for key accounts (with sales support).Provide product and application guidance to customers including Channel Partners, Distributors, Sales, OEM’s, End Users, System Integrators, Inside Sales, Technical Support, Technical Service, Order Engineering, and others.Solve application and installation matters over the telephone or by visiting the customer site (approximately 25% travel).Provide remote and on-site assistance for equipment set-up and troubleshooting.Assist field service, technical support, and repair departments with diagnosis and repair of drive products.Support product and application projects as requested by other Yaskawa departments/business units.

Technical Documentation

Generate and edit technical sheets and information including application notes, success stories, feature descriptions, setup notes, descriptions of operation, etc. pertaining to all levels of Drive products.Create and edit application documentation to aid in the promotion of products, solutions, and services.Create and collaborate on Drive related technical specifications for enhancing future products.Update, organize, and maintain technical documents and engineering files.Review and edit new technical manuals, instruction manuals, and installation guides.Produce and edit custom application specific software specifications and associated documentation for the Drive product line.Acquire and maintain familiarity with applicable industry standards including UL, cUL, CSA, NEMA, CE, IEEE, JIS, and others.Assist Product Marketing in the preparation of product launch materials and electronic files for new products.

Technical Training

Conduct technical training sessions in-house and support Sales associates at customer’s facilities: Channel Partners, OEM’s, End Users, Representatives, Key Accounts, and Systems Integrators.Support Training Department with technical information or materials required for customer and associate training (in-house classes, road shows, e-learning modules).Assist in creating marketing and training materials (PowerPoint presentations, handouts, and demonstration equipment) for web classes and sales associates.Assist in the development of Application Engineer C. Ability to mentor and answer technical questions from fellow application engineers.

Project Engineering/Quality Control Support/Development Support

Research, document, and recommend solutions for product improvement on quality control issues.Assist product engineering and development with review and testing of new products, options, and software.Primary liaison between QC and customers on quality related issues.

Research and Reporting Responsibilities

Communicate project status and provide technical updates to Sales associates.Complete special application related research projects as assigned by manager.Archive technical notes on application projects and product successes.Generate product and feature specifications used to enhance Drive and Machine Tool products.Implement process improvements using the ETQP model.

Product Certification Support

Support customer witness test requirements and generate test reports.Provide product certification support to Drive development and R&D groups.Perform competitive testing and generate comparisons associated with drive products.Support in-house testing of customer supplied equipment used with Drive products and generate test reports.

QualificationsThe successful candidate will possess a Bachelors degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering along with demonstrated knowledge of process automation solutions specifically in the AC Drives area. The ideal candidate will have:3+ years of experience involving Yaskawa or competitor product lines, applications and projects.Preferred a candidate with field experience and C++, serial communications and simulation tool experience is a plus.This role does require approximately 25% domestic and international travel.
