Job Overview

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in helping us build new products and improve our existing products, allowing us to reach more students and have a greater impact. In this role, you will lead a team of Software Engineers, working with stakeholders to craft a technical vision and strategy for your team and guiding your engineers to achieve that vision.

The Software Engineering ManagerConducts regular 1:1s and performance reviews with each member of their team.Provides coaching and feedback to enable engineers to grow, be productive, and increase their impact.Provides technical guidance and assistance through architectural, technical design, and code reviews.Leads their team to successfully deliver projects regularly.Fosters a respectful and supportive team environment that optimizes for collaboration and productivity.Collaborates with company stakeholders and Project Management to ensure priority of engineering work is based on product, engineering, and business goals.Collaborates with company stakeholders, Engineering leadership, and Software Architects to set technical vision and strategy in their space.Ensures their team has a plan to achieve the goals and tasks in front of them.Assists their team with design and breakdown of work.Sets standards to safeguard a readable, testable, maintainable, secure, and scalable codebase.Contributes to software engineering hiring, as well as other department-wide programs and initiatives.

The Ideal Candidate Has1+ year of experience in a technical management role4+ years professional experience in full stack web development using:HTML, CSS, Javascript (or TypeScript), ReactRDBMS such as MySQL/MariaDB or PostgreSQLNode.js or PHPStrong understanding of the JavaScript language and ecosystem.Experience mentoring software engineers and providing technical leadership and coaching on full-stack design and code.Experience leading a team of engineers to deliver a project.A track record as a thought leader on product/development strategy and experience leading a team of engineers to deliver large projects.Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.Strong attention to detail.Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and creative skills.
