We’re going after a huge market opportunity, raised an oversubscribed pre-seed round, and can’t wait to hire our first founding engineer!About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to help us architect and build the Springtail platform. As the first key engineering hire, you will report to the CTO and have a hugely influential role in our technical decisions, product direction, and company culture.This is a hybrid role based in the San Francisco Bay Area.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and implement robust API services in either C++ or Java, focusing on maintainability, performance, and security. This includes designing interfaces, database schemas, and authorization models.Understand database internals, including storage engines and data modeling techniques.Collaborate with frontend teams to define API specifications and translate user needs into technical solutions.Collaborate with SREs to bring up, bring down, and scale up customer environments.Integrate various backend systems and services to create a seamless user experience.Write unit and integration tests for your code, ensuring high quality and reliability.Write technical specifications and design documents for your code.Participate in code reviews and mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience.Who You Are6+ years of experience as a backend engineer with a solid understanding of API design and development principles.Expertise in either C++ or Java with strong object-oriented programming skills.In-depth knowledge of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and SQL.Familiarity with RESTful APIs, JSON data formats, and common HTTP methods.Proficiency with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes is helpful.Experience working in an early-stage startup is a huge plus.Passion for learning about backend technologies, including new frameworks, libraries, and tools that can improve our developer experience and product.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.What We OfferWe are technical and product-minded, building a product for developers by developers.
