Access & Core Provisioning Network Engineer II

ResponsibilitiesResponsible primarily for implementation and configuration of new services and change requests. Services which include but are not limited to Ethernet.Engineer must be experienced and have good level of competence with command line configurations for routing and switching.The Engineer will implement new services, change existing services, and remove services as requested while following strict management guidelines to ensure network integrity.Implement access, and edge network configurations on new and existing infrastructure in strict adherence to existing engineering best practices and standards.Processing and handling of engineering requests for implementation, and configuration changes through defined workflows via Salesforce and Jira.Demonstrate a strong capacity for troubleshooting newly implemented configurations for a network event surrounding possible impact to existing services and infrastructure.Effective time management and tracking for project based work including scopes and delivery capability to ensure projects are clearly defined and demonstrate a high level of accuracy for delivery within time constraints.Effectively able to create change tickets/CRQs, MOPs (Method of Procedures).Configure all provider edge (PE) routers and premises equipment necessary for the delivery of commercial and carrier class Ethernet services.Testing and validation of all newly configured premises equipment.Ability to work with minimum supervision.Plans and implements enterprise networks and related hardware and software.Designs and documents network architecture.Performs assessments on existing technologies to determine performance and capacity gaps.Establishes security (firewalls, intrusion detection), connectivity and access parameters.Provides recommendations to optimize network infrastructure.Tests and tunes security devices and systems.Programs routers and switches.Implements communications technologies (data or voice).Manages network services from planning phase through implementation.Solid knowledge of routing protocols, network hardware and software, security technologies and network infrastructure is required.Requirements
Skills and Qualifications Required
2 - 5 years of engineering experience in a telecommunications within an ILEC, CLEC, or MSO.Experienced in documenting and designing circuits end to end in OSS tools such as Granite Xng.Experienced in Telcordia naming definitions for sites, equipment and circuits.Layer2 experience and knowledge in VLANs and circuit emulation.Understanding physical and logical cross-connects as it relates to network design and traffic management.Thorough understanding of metro Ethernet transport protocols such as MPLS, VPLS, RPR, and related network protocols.Demonstrates knowledge of IP network operations and architectures. Ability to understand complex technical documentation, processes and problem resolution.Knowledgeable of IP routing (L3), Switching (L2) and Optical Transport (L1) technologies. Some experience with IP technologies.Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of professional principles, practices, and procedures to solve a variety of moderately complex issues.Works with minimal supervision but confers with superiors on unusual matters: has appreciated latitude for un-reviewed actions or decisions.Assignments are broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity.May be assisted by other Engineers.Education and Certifications
High school diploma or equivalent.Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience.Certifications and Licenses
Vendor certifications such as Calix, Adtran, Nortel, Tellabs, Fujitsu, Infinera, Ciena, Cisco, Juniper, ALU and others
