The MITRE Corporation’s Electronic Systems Innovation Center is seeking a Senior Principal Microelectronics Engineer to provide the vision and strategy for applying microelectronics and semiconductor technology at MITRE to create solutions for a safer world. The Senior Principal Engineer will be a technical and business leader for several internal and external efforts in the design, prototyping, vulnerability analysis, and demonstration of electronic systems for a variety of applications and sponsors.

Department Summary:

The Electronic Systems Innovation Center is a leader in applying cutting edge technologies to solve the nation’s toughest problems. The Electronic Systems Development and Embedded Security department specializes in prototyping and analyzing the next-generation systems for our sponsors to reduce risk in Programs of Record (PoR), bring innovative new solutions to solve challenges of national importance while protecting critical program information, and provide subject matter expertise with hands-on experience.

Job Responsibilities:

This position will work across MITRE projects, the United States Government (USG), academia, and industrial partners in driving the development and adoption of microelectronics and semiconductor technologies to enable new capabilities. The Senior Principal Engineer will be a Technical Expert and Thought Leader responsible for creating and sustaining external partnerships to further the research and adoption of Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) technology, Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), Systems-on-a-Chip (SoCs), and other commercial-off-the-shelf components for the USG, critical US infrastructure, and other systems of national importance. Candidates should have strong technical background and research experience in electronics hardware design and prototyping, semiconductors, anti-tamper and reverse engineering, and embedded systems design and security. Candidates should also have demonstrated experience leading with project technical leadership, federal government policy and regulations, academic and government research activities, as well as effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Basic Qualifications

· Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience

· This requisition requires the candidate to have the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance and the ability to participate in classified discussions at the Bedford, MA campus secure facilities as needed.

· Experience developing strategies, roadmaps, and prototypes for electronic systems

· Experience with USG electronic systems and relevant PoR

· Experience with high speed communication systems and components

· Ability to work with customers to understand their use cases and formulate a path forward, requires excellent oral and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences

· Ability to build consensus and partnerships across industry, academia, and government to promote and advance the state of the art in microelectronics systems to address issues of national impact

· Expertise in the design of microelectronic components and systems, including digital design, FPGA design, and embedded software architecture and development

· Experience identifying and applying emerging technologies to USG PoR

· Experience with identifying and advocating for critical lab and infrastructure investments

· Experience identifying and pursuing research areas for electronic systems

· Experience developing, attracting, and retaining talent in electronic systems

· Experience fostering an environment and culture of innovation, technical leadership, collaboration, camaraderie, and technical quality

· Experience leading teams developing electronic systems for USG applications

· Willingness/passion for mentoring and developing junior engineers

· This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications

o Domain-specific expertise and/or related education in electronic warfare applications

o M.S. or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

o Additional years of experience

o Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance

o Experience with secure design of ASICs, commercial programmable SoCs, and FPGAs

o Experience applying novel signal processing techniques
