SGSS, a Parsons company, has an immediate full-time, on-site, opening for a Senior Network Engineer supporting the IT Support Team in Alexandria, VA. The SGSS IT Support Team is responsible for designing and implementing the network infrastructure supporting successful development and deployment of satellite ground station software. The organizations' engineers and administrators apply their knowledge of software, operating systems, networks, databases, architectures, and tools to improve the maintainability and operability of software systems. The Senior Network Engineer will help SGSS and NRL continue expansion into cloud-based infrastructure with a specific focus on ensuring the stability and integrity of data, wireless, and voice network services. The network engineer will be responsible for planning, designing, and developing local area networks and wide area networks across the organization. In addition, the Sr. Network Engineer will participate in installations, infrastructure upgrade(s), monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also champion analysis and timely resolution of network hardware and software problems.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, evaluate options, and deliver engineered network solutions for both corporate use and customer delivery
Assess the current state of network architecture and identify areas for improvement
Design and implement scalable and reliable network solutions to meet current and future business needs
Support firewalls, routers, switches, LANs, WANs, site-to-site VPNs, remote-access VPNs and wireless networks as required
Develop, document, communicate, and oversee architecture and design products for new network capabilities, in partnership with software and systems engineers, to be procured and implemented at SGSS corporate and customer locations
Assist in program engineering, including enterprise configuration management, risk management, trade assessments, procurement decisions, and the development of training and documentation to sustain new network capabilities
Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades. Adopt and implement architectural best practices and frameworks to include the enhanced security measures to protect the network infrastructure from cyber threats and vulnerabilities
Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry
Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services
Monitor network performance, test and troubleshoot problem areas as needed
Provide network performance statistics and reports as needed
Collaborate with senior leadership and program leaders to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs
Create and/or revise documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records
Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and supplemental training plans for system administration, usage, and disaster recovery
Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, customer site connectivity, fax machines, and other network appliances
In support of security engineering, perform secondary system security audits, and system backups and recovery
Document, develop, and mature quality assurance measures for physical and virtual network infrastructure
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Active DoD SECRET clearance , with ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance
Must be a US citizen
B.S. in relevant field (Comp. Sci./Engineering, Software Engineering) or 14+ years relevant experience may be substituted for education
12+ years of progressively increasing responsibility in network solutions engineering
12+ years of experience designing, implementing, managing and supporting enterprise level IP networks that include support of a heterogeneous distributed desktop computing environment
12+ years of experience with networking in service providers and/or enterprises to include 802.11 / Wi-Fi wireless
12+ years' Senior Network Engineering Design/Architecture, Operational, and Support experience in Data Center network environments
Deep understanding and can demonstrate technical expertise in the configuration, troubleshooting and operation of technologies and protocols commonly implemented in Data Center networks including Layer 2 switching technologies, EVPN, Layer 2 and Layer 3 Multicast, OSPF, BGP, and associated tunneling technologies (GRE, VXLAN, etc.)
Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience
Extensive application support experience with network monitoring and analysis software
Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Current TS/SCI
Experience with Automation Frameworks, DevOps Concepts, scripting, and Programming Languages (Kubernetes, Ansible, Python) a plus
Network virtualization, including containerization
Experience serving in security management in a classified IT development program
Proficiency with Linux, especially RHEL families, and Bash scripting
Familiarity with specific tools: Gitlab, Terraform, OpenStack, AWS GovCloud, RedHat Enterprise Virtualization, VMWare/ESXi
AWS Certifications.
DoD 8750 certification at IAT Level II (CompTIA Security+; Cloud+, CASP+), will be required to attain and maintain as part of the job
Certifications such as JNCIS, JNCIP, JNCIE, CCNP, CCIE a plus
