Position Summary

The MaineHealth Senior Tumor Registrar oversees the collection, analysis and coding of health and medical information on Maine Medical Center cancer patients and trains non-certified registry staff on all of these aspects of tumor registry operations. It includes organizing and generating Registry data for research, quality assurance and facilities planning. Assists the Oncology Information Services Manager in maintaining departmental data quality standards and achieving and maintaining the MaineHealth Network Registry data standards as per American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer specifications.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Education:

Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy and physiology normally acquired through graduation from a two-year biomedical, medical technician or medical records program is strongly preferred.

License/Certifications:

Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) or 3-5 years' Cancer Registry experience is required.

Experience:

See "License/Certifications." Experience in health care delivery systems desired.

Knowledge of medical practices and procedures as applied to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Ability to organize systems and extrapolate medical information from records and data information systems.

Ability to work independently and make decision according to established guidelines.

Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with health care professionals, physicians, patients and external agencies.

Ability to meet deadlines and to pay attention to detail.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co workers, supervisors, physicians, patients and health care personnel.

Ability to adhere to hospital and departmental rules pertaining to patient and physician confidentiality.

Knowledge of office practices, procedures, and equipment.
