The role of the System and Application Administrator Senior is crucial for maintaining the peak performance and security of our IT infrastructure. With a primary focus on deploying, configuring, and overseeing VMware vSphere environments, this position entails constant monitoring and optimization of both virtual and physical infrastructure. The Senior Administrator is responsible for implementing and managing virtual networks, storage, and security policies. Additionally, they troubleshoot issues related to virtualization and hardware, while configuring and maintaining Storage Area Network (SAN) systems. Regularly planned backup and disaster recovery procedures are executed to ensure data integrity. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, self-discipline, and a proactive problem-solving mindset. These attributes are vital for handling escalations from other IT teams and fostering effective collaboration with vendors.

Essential Functions

30% - Design, deploy, configure, and manage VMware vSphere environment and components. Monitor and optimize virtual and physical infrastructure performance. Implement and manage virtual networks, storage, and security policies. Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to virtualization and hardware. Configure and maintain enterprise SAN storage systems. Perform regular backups, ensure data integrity, and test restore processes. Plan and execute disaster recovery procedures.

15% - Install, configure and maintain various logging or monitoring infrastructure. Develop and maintain log aggregation and analysis processes. Create custom dashboards and reports for monitoring and analysis. Proactive review and analysis of logs to maintain optimal security and overall systems health. Respond to security incidents by analyzing logs for anomalies.

15% - Deploy and manage endpoint security solutions such as client backups and antivirus/antimalware. Apply information security policies and procedures. Respond to and investigate security incidents. Remediate vulnerabilities identified during assessments. Perform security updates on enterprise software and hardware. Stay informed about the latest security threats and vulnerabilities.

15% - Collaborate with other IT teams for cross-functional projects. Document and maintain configurations, procedures, and policies. Work closely with other IT professionals and departments. Communicate effectively with team members, management, and end-users. Coordinate and collaborate with vendors for external hardware and software support. Makes recommendations about improvements to systems processes and technologies.

15% - Manage datacenter hardware infrastructure including physical installation, removal, and upgrade of servers, cabling, and rack equipment. Onsite monitoring, investigation, and response to datacenter issues such as power, air conditioning, or related environmental conditions.

10% - Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in information technology or related field with four (4) full-time equivalent years of system and application administration experience in an area related to assignment. OR

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution with six (6) full-time equivalent years of system and application administration experience in an area related to assignment. (Reference position specific responsibilities above to determine experience in area of assignment.)

OR

High School Diploma or GED with eight (8) full-time equivalent years of system and application administration experience in an area related to assignment. (Reference position specific responsibilities above to determine experience in area of assignment.)

Desired QualificationsExperience in two or more of the following systems areas: data center management, virtualization, server applications, storage management, enterprise logging, enterprise backupsExperience managing data center systems including enterprise platforms, storage area network, server infrastructure, or virtualizationExperience with enterprise logging software like ManageEngine, Splunk, Sentry or Sumo LogicExperience managing technology fleet with Symantec Ghost Solution Suite (formerly Altiris) or SCCMCurrent or past certification for systems, network, or security areas such as VMware, Veeam, Microsoft, or CompTIA
