The Operating Room Service Line Coordinator (ORSLC) works under the direction of the Senior Manager, OR Business and Strategy or designee to coordinate and supervise the activities essential to the safe and efficient performance of the Operating Room.

The service line coordinator works with NWH Materials Management, Partners Materials Management, Resource Nurses, Pod Leaders, and Vendors to ensure proper inventory levels of owned and consigned implants are always present.

The service line coordinator works with the clinical service providers and surgeons/surgical offices, reviewing the surgical schedule in advance to anticipate the need for implants, instruments, and equipment. Ensures all required implants, instruments, and equipment are available prior to surgery. Establishes and maintains processes and systems that ensure that vendors are aware of the need for loaned instruments, implants, and equipment. Ensures that vendors comply with hospital policies and procedures regarding loaned implants, instruments, and equipment.

The service line coordinator works collaboratively with clinical staff and makes recommendations to the Perioperative Product Selection Committee concerning management of equipment and implants. Ensures vendors and surgeons follow Newton Wellesley Hospital's policy for the introduction of new products. Assists in maintaining preference cards.

The service line coordinator maintains invoice tracking and approval process. Works collaboratively to maintain implant supply and works with vendors to manage consignment items.

The service line coordinator works collaboratively with Perioperative Leaders to monitor throughput processes and ensure that established throughput processes are followed in the surgical setting. As part of the Perioperative Leadership team, actively participates in developing and implementing improvements in the throughput process. Monitor equipment, instrument, and implant use and makes recommendations Provides regular reports on utilization and assists Business Manager within budget projections and reports.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required, Bachelor's degree preferred.

• Surgical Technologist certification preferred

Experience

• Minimum of five years experience as a Surgical Technician required

• Preferred experience using computerized purchasing system

• Preferred experience with EPIC

Knowledge and Skill

• Ability to relate effectively with an interdisciplinary team;

• Ability to tolerate a busy environment and manage many simultaneous interpersonal stimuli.

• Knowledge of purchasing principles/practices, e.g. disclosure of proprietary information, conflict of interest, principles of inventory control, distribution and general accounting to assist vendors in resolving billing issues.

• Familiarity with medical/surgical supplies and equipment is preferred.
