This position is a hybrid role (3x per week onsite) that will be based at our headquarters in Fremont, California.

Project Commissioning

Engineer

This person will be part of the team, Power Electronics Systems Engineering (a.k.a., NX Power Plant or NXPP). This team's goal is to develop an all-in-one utility PV+Storage power block offering to our customers. This team is R&D in nature and focuses on four distinct product developments and their integration into Nextracker's existing offerings. The four products are (i) hybrid central inverter and skid, (ii) battery DCDC converters, (iii) tracker-level PV optimizers or MPPT, and (iv) power plant controls. As a Commissioning Engineer you will support the team in testing the four product families in our test yards in support of product development & will travel to projects to support in field commissioning in troubleshooting.

Here is what you'll do as the Field Application Engineer/Project Commissioning

Engineer

Test and commission Nextracker Power Plant product offerings in test yards and project installationsDevelop and execute plans to expand Fremont HQ and Brazil test capabilities.Develop maintenance procedures and other operational documentation, such as commissioning procedures.Provide technical support for Nextracker customers.Support testing engineers in the execution of performance, functionality, and grid code compliance test plans of inverters, battery DCDC converters, and PV optimizers both in Fremont Nextracker test yard, Brazil Nextracker test yard, and at the NREL in Colorado (will require occasional travel)Support in analyzing testing results, M&V validation data provided by the performance engineering team, and equipment designs and recommend design improvements.Support Electrical Engineering team in defining specifications for, and interfaces between, connected components: PV panels, optimizers, combiner boxes, DC and AC cabling, disconnects, surge protection, circuit breakers and transformers.Support Balance of System engineering team to define and comply with interface requirements such as protection coordination, wiring and communications.Collaborate with quality team to audit processes and provide control plans and lead long term resolutions of defects and deviations identified.Here is some of what you'll need (required)...

5+ years of experience in high-power converters field commissioning & testing.Experience installing and operating PV + Battery Storage projects.Experience performing maintenance on inverters, DC/DC converters, and BESS systems.Experience using insulation resistance meters (i.e., "Megger"), IV curve tracers, oscilloscopes, and power analyzers.Experience identifying ground faults in a PV + BESS system.Experience reading electrical PV, DC, and AC wiring schematics.Experience with various communication protocols (Modbus TCP/IP, DNP3, CAN, etc.)Experience troubleshooting electrical and comms issues from the field and performing root cause analysis.Familiarity and understanding with the PV and Battery sections of the National Electrical Code (NEC)Willingness to travel (up to 50% of time) throughout US and worldwide

Here are a few of our preferred experiences...

Experience with PV system design and applications.Experience with PV + Battery applications. Knowledge of DC-coupled PV + Battery applications is a plus.Experience in multiple aspects of inverter design, such as firmware and hardware.Experience selecting appropriate AC and DC protection devices.Familiarity with IEEE1547 US grid code.Ability to speak Mandarin Chinese.

Pay Range (Applicable to California):

$145,000 to $180,000
