Technical Support Specialist

Primary Purpose:

Installs, diagnoses, tests, and maintains computers and other equipment used in the network infrastructure and provides technical support to the end users.

Education/ Certification:High School Diploma or GED supplemented by specialized training in microcomputer hardware and software and office automation is required.Some college coursework in computer science or related technical coursework is preferred.Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to concentrate and communicate effectively (verbally and written).Principles and techniques of microcomputer hardware and software installation, troubleshooting and maintenance.Experience/Other Requirements:

Sufficient experience in technical services related to microcomputers, data communications, and telecommunications technology to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge and abilities.Valid Texas Driver's License or the ability to obtain one by the first date of employment.Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Represents the Technology department in a professional and helpful manner.Installs and upgrades computer software and hardware; configures computers according to the District's standards. Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and maintains computer hardware and software.Installs, diagnoses, and troubleshoots basic problems with LAN/WAN equipment, connections, and nodes, including workstations, servers, printers, modems, and periphera lequipment.Maintains helpdesk and inventory records, records and tracks problems and follows up to ensure resolution. Involves vendors and other Information Services staff as necessary.Researches answers and provides end user support onsite and remotely regarding supported software (e.g., word processing, terminal emulation, and electronic mail).Orders parts and supplies as needed.Provides on-site introductory training on new hardware and software to users.Installs, terminates, tests, and troubleshoots in-house station cable. Coordinates cabling projects.Manages workload in accordance with the department and users' priorities.Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.Other duties as assigned.SupervisoryResponsibilities:
