DescriptionSummary:
A Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. In addition, the Registered Professional Nurse prescribes, delegates, coordinates, supervises and evaluates patient teaching and the activities of the ancillary nursing personnel while maintaining the standards of professional nursing. The Registered Nurse is able to provide direct and indirect care to patients.
Requirements:
A. Education/Skills
Graduate of a State Board School of Nursing or equivalent.
· All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
· New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member and initial on-boarding requirements are validated through successful completion of the designated organizational entry competency validation and a
Perinatal Department -specific competency validation.
· Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.
B. Experience
Six (6) months experience preferred.
· Perinatal RN Residency, or recently practicing in a Perinatal Setting is preferred.
C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
Current license or permit to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas
American Heart Association BLS – within two (2) weeks of employment
Medication Competence – within two (2) weeks of employment
Computer Competence- within four (4) weeks of employment
NRP within in six (6) months of employment
Basic Fetal Monitoring with in twelve (12) weeks of employment
Standardized Competencies for Electronic Fetal Heart Monitoring Acknowledgement and agreement during unit specific orientation
Intermediate Fetal Monitoring within twelve (12) months of employment
Advanced Fetal Monitoring after twelve (12) months, then annually
· Current
AWHONN Intermediate Instructor led EFM course at time of hire for experienced RNs or within 6 months of hire for new graduate nurses and maintain AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced EFM course certification thereafter.
