We are seeking a full-time
Software Engineer - OEM Airframe Lead
in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you'll be responsible for integrating Garmin's products into the cockpits of industry-leading aircraft. You'll write software in C and Python, configure the flight deck to meet your customer's requirements, and integrate software for delivery to the customer. This role provides a customer-facing opportunity with aircraft Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in addition to software engineering responsibilities.
Essential FunctionsCreates and executes designs for small sets of new functionalities as part of a software project using C, C++, C#, Java, assembly language, or other selected languagesUtilizes software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, build processes, and debuggers in the software development processCollaborates and adds value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestionsProvides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniquesPerforms technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problemsContributes to technical research on new technologiesEstimates level of effort, evaluates new options of similar technology, offers suggestions to improve processes, and provides feedback on some electrical design aspectsServes as a mentor to less experienced software engineers (Software Engineer 1)Software development for safety-critical airframe specific and airframe independent functionalitySuccessfully manages OEM relationships, including: positive and proactive communication, understanding and advocating for requirements from customers, managing feedback, and ensuring expectations are appropriately calibrated with our OEM partnersDevelops and maintains high quality deliverables for our OEMs in alignment with their engineering, flight test, and production schedulesFamiliarity and understanding of how Garmin Aviation's product offerings come together as an integrated flight deckWorks cross functionally with Garmin's program coordination, systems, system tests, human factors and flight operations teams to ensure all aspects of a program are tended toBasic QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics or related field
AND
a minimum of 1 year relevant experience
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experienceExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)Demonstrated proficiency and experience necessary to develop moderately complex software in C, C++, C#, Java, assembly language, or other selected languagesProficient knowledge, utilization and mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)Desired QualificationsOutstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)Previous work or internship experience in design, particularly for consumer products
